Whose parents want their child reading about how to possibly get away with murder in an 8th grade ELA class? If you were a parent would you want your child to read a book that could probably build horrible thoughts in their mind? Would you worry that the book sends the wrong message? In the book, “Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe, the narrator is planning on killing an old man who never harmed him , but had a pale blue eye that drove him insane. He watched the man sleep for seven nights waiting on the eye to be open, and on the the eighth night he killed the man. This is why I strongly believe that the Tell-Tale Heart Is in inappropriate for my age group or for anyone in middle school. Not only does Tell-Tale Heart tell about murder but it also shows the reader how you can possibly get away with murder. From the reading, the narrator says “ Do you still think I am mad? Consider how I hid the body. First I cut the corpse. Next, I took up three boards from the bedroom floor and hid the body parts there. There was no bloodstains,I caught it all in the tub. When I finished it was 4 o 'clock in the morning. I answered a knock at the door with nothing to fear.” This just gives a reader the mindset that they can kill someone and if they don’t know where to hide it , they can hide it up under the floorboards. Even though, we are surrounded by violence throughout life I feel that when we come to school it should not be something we should have to study on. In my opinion, Tell-Tale Heart is not something I would recommend for middle school because we are easily influenced and not most are mature. Most children are easily inspired and we should try to prevent them from getting exposed to too much violence before they get the wrong
