For the week 10 reading I decided to read the Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg Address talks about how “all men are created equal” and that we have certain liberties as Americans. Although this is true, we did not get these liberties without a fight. They were not just given to Americans. It talks about how America is in a civil war that is testing the nation as a whole and will determine if the nation can stay united. Through being united as a nation America will be so much stronger than if it were split. All together we are stronger, so we need to stay united even when things get tough. It says that “these dead should not have died in vain” (p.1) This means that we cannot just be little about the sacrifices these men have made for this nation and let it fall apart. There is no greater sacrifice than to give up your life for something that you believe in. We need to keep fighting for what they were fighting for or it was all for nothing. Although the Gettysburg Address is not very long it is a very powerful speech with a great meaning behind it. This speech is definitely a popular and very important part of American History. In this address, the men that fought for this country that the battlefield was being dedicated are described as brave. I think that this is a very fitting word to describe them. It takes so much courage to not only fight for something and fight for what you believe in but to also risk your life for it is impressive. That is definitely an example of dedication. The amount of bravery it would take to fight in the Civil War when you know that there is a great chance that you could lose your life and never be able to go home to your family is a tremendous amount. I am more than grateful for these men and I know many Americans are as well. They fought for our freedoms and that is why we are allowed to do so many things that we would not have had the opportunity to do. Not every country around the world has the same freedoms and liberties that Americans do
