How do you know is if someone is a hero or a tyrant? A tyrant is a single ruler who abuses his power. A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. During the French, Mexican, and Haitian revolution there were a lot of tyrannical actions, but there were also a lot of heroic actions to challenge the existing social, political and economic system.
This is where he makes his first friend who he will cherrish for a very long time. Enkidu enters the village challenging Gilgamesh in a test of strength. He had heard so many stories on his journey to Uruk that he wanted to see if he is a worthy challenger. After hearing of the wedding, Enkidu heads out to go see Gilgamesh. The translator proclaims that, “Enkidu was walking infront, while Shamhat behind him”(15).

In the epic Gilgamesh, the characters traits of both Gilgamesh and Enkidu help to build a lasting friendship through their differences. For example, Gilgamesh is the king of Uruk, a city of culture, and personifies the highest of human virtues, such as fairness, bravery, and courage. However, Gilgamesh is often unstable. In sharp contrast, Enkidu was raised in the wild and is foreign to civilization. Enkidu is caring and thoughtful and equal to Gilgamesh in strength.
Ninsun prays for their safety. She also grants their protection against Humbaba. Shamash sends a wind against Humbaba in which Humbaba’s mobility is restricted. Shamash’s aid gave a chance for Gilgamehs and Enkidu to kill Humbaba. Ninsun is the mother of Gilgamesh, but she is also a goddess and Shamash is the god of sun.
Gilgamesh and Enkidu submitted themselves to the female life force. Almost all the conflicts, clashes, confrontations are with women, which are loaded with tension and worry. This makes the female gender crucial. This epic provided some light on the culture of Sumeria. The story gave some facts.

What or who do you think the rock symbolizes and how will Gilgamesh relate to this rock? I think the rock symbolizes Enkidu because, earlier in the tablet, Enkidu is said to be as strong and mighty as a rock from the sky. Gilgamesh will relate to this rock by treating it kindly and lovingly like a family member or wife.
The Epic of Gilgamesh gives a lot of insight to what was happening and what was expected in ancient Mesopotamia. The epic poem which revolves around a king, includes many details in to the civilization, beliefs, and values of the Mesopotamians. The king thrives to be remembered and many of his actions reflect that. The Epic of Gilgamesh show how an ideal heroic king should be in ancient Mesopotamia. The first thing it shows us is that hero kings should be strong.

Through their relationship they become wiser and more viable assets to each other and their society. Before meeting Enkidu, Gilgamesh was a powerful leader, revered by his subjects, but his arrogance and egotism fueled his decisions. Contradistinction, Enkidu had only physical power; he was mentally incompetent as a human. The text describes their relationship as an intimate one: "'[I fell in love with it], like a woman I caressed it, / I carried it off and laid it down before you, / Then you were making it my partner'" (48-50).
After six days with the harlot, Enkidu realizes he lost his strength. The harlot gets him to join civilization, so he becomes a normal human. He is treated like a royal until Gilgamesh defeats him in battle. After that Gilgamesh and Enkidu become friends and fight in battles together until Enkidu suddenly dies. Gilgamesh does not want the same fate, so he goes looking for eternal life but dies anyway.
Enkidu’s friendship makes Gilgamesh calm and helps him to become a better king. Throughout the epic, Gilgamesh and Enkidu kiss and hug each other frequently. After conflicts between the two, they kissed and formed friendship. But Gilgamesh is never seen sleeping with a woman after conflict, and he even rejected Ishtar, the principal goddess of Uruk. “Come, Gilgamesh, be you my bridegroom!
George Orwell’s Essays are valued by audiences due to their ability to effectively communicate and address universal concerns. Literary devices are used to bridge the gaps and fill in the cracks for me where simple words do not suffice in some stories. I find myself constantly searching stories for and identifying different types of literary devices. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, three uses of literary devices were demonstrated and used consistently. These literary devices are: repetition, imagery and flashbacks. This literary narrative is centered on an epic journey that utilizes literary devices to enhance the complexity and understanding in the story.
