While both the Northern Renaissance style painting by Jan van Eyck, titled The Arnolfini Portrait, and the Baroque style painting, by Johannes Vermeer, titled Woman Holding a Balance, indeed share some similarities, like painting for wealthy merchants and not just the church or royalty, there are some noted variations in the type of form used, between the different paintings. Eyck uses lines that are solid, bold, clearly defining each element and miniscule detail of the painting. The Northern Renaissance was well known for its attention to fine details, and Eyck does a great job of displaying this with The Arnolfini Portrait. Extended out to most children is the hand of a parent offering a warm hug along with warnings of danger to their children. This is what any fit parent would do. However this is not always the case with all parents. For example in the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Rose Mary and Rex Walls are not fit to be parents because they don’t give their children what they need and have an unstable relationship. Jeannette and her siblings live off of what their parents can afford when they have sufficient money but they don’t use it to give them what they need.
One way paintings demonstrate this is the difference between the Mona Lisa and Madonna Enthroned Between Two Angels. The older painting, Madonna Enthroned Between Two Angles, is unrealistic and has rather depressing dark colors. While the Renaissance painting, the Mona Lisa, is not only much more realistic, but also a lot more cheerful, brighter feel, and became a true masterpiece (Doc A). In the paintings, the fact the Renaissance painting is brighter, more realistic and a famous masterpiece, shows that the Renaissance changed the art style into a unique, amazing representation that changed the entire future of art. The paintings from the Renaissance showed that people saw each other differently than before( Doc A).

New thinking about humans being the most significant rather than religious figures would have been unheard of in the Middle Ages, but now in this new period, the world has begun to accept this. These new ideas led to them being present in art, leading to a new beginning for art. In “The Last Days of the Renaissance & The March to Modernity” by Theodore Rabb, he discovers that what occurred in the Renaissance changed art permanently. He said, “The new artistic styles would echo the broader movements and interests of the new age ....
In the time of the Middle Ages, they focused on the religious value of art, “The [clearest] evidence of the break with medieval culture comes from the visual arts.” (DocA) a popular painting of this time by Duccio Di Bouninsegna’s shows The Mother Mary with the baby Jesus on her lap. This painting was two-dimensional and had very little creativity, the painting mostly didn’t make people feel anything only had religious value. While during the Renaissance they focused on making you feel stronger feelings “[It] was the essence of the Renaissance .... One begins to know the names of the artists ... feel stronger emotions in the subjects ... ... see well-defined landscapes, natural folds in drapery, and three-dimensional figures” (Doc A).
The two pieces of art I will discuss is Edouard Manet’s ‘Olympia’ and Mary Cassatt 's ‘Woman in Black at the Opera’. Manet’s Olympia was not critically accepted, the reaction to his painting was negative, only four critics out of sixty were favorably disposed to Olympia. Olympia was a derivative of Titian 's Venus. In 1863 the critics and the viewers didn’t know how to take Olympia, “they were unable to cope with so many novel factors and so they were unable to categorize the picture and so were unable to analyze it or understand it in any context” (Laurence, 2012). Nowadays we are more open minded and are able to see the painting in a different light.
Peter Paul Rubens was an extraordinary artist, most of his pieces were made with female body’s. The female body had clothes on, but sometimes they were naked. One of his most famous artworks is Honeysuckle Bower, which symbolizes many different ideas, but mostly it symbolizes love. This informational essay is about an individual that was famous for his works of art. He is from the Renaissance period.
History can be a seductive mistress. She can beguile us with vivid images and works of such beauty that our attention is turned away from the harsh realities of a particular time and place. The Renaissance is a case in point. We study the period with an almost spiritual gaze. As a result, we often see a dream-like and hazy picture -- not unlike the Mona Lisa herself.

“The Locket” by Kate Chopin was an interesting short story. The conclusion of story was surprising because the reader can easily assume that Edmond died in battle because of the locket. Edmond was a soldier fighting in the American Civil War. The end of the short story was unpredictable because of the different thoughts and actions of Edmond, the priest, and Octavie. Edmond's sweetheart, Octavie, gave him a locket before he left home for the war.
¨The Bracelet¨ by Yoshiko Uchida is about a Japanese girl named Ruri. Ruri and her family were Japanese/American families during World War 2. Ruri is sent to a relocation center and they are forced to move out of their home because she is Japanese and the U.S. Government is at war with the Japanese and they think all Japanese people could be spies. Her friend Laurie gives Ruri a bracelet as a birthday present when she leaves to move. After she moves to the relocation center Ruri finds out she had lost the bracelet and gets upset.

The woman in the portrait is sat upright in an armchair, with her arms folded. This painting was one of the first portraits that depicted the sitter in front of an imaginary landscape.
