Broadway music coming from the most famous and the musical of Lorenz Hart, Jerome Kern and Rodgers and Hammerstein, those song are still as popular as they were when the first came out. Long after their long runs on Broadway, Ricard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II musicals are still as popular as they were back when they were originally produced. Rodgers & Hammerstein were American’s most influential, innovative and successful musical writing team, together their music for Broadway and film granted those 34 Tony Awards, 15 Oscars, Two Grammys and the Pulitzer Prize. Together they wrote the most iconic scores for stage and screen including The Sound of Music, Carousel, Oklahoma, The King and I and South Pacific.
I Am A Lake Live theatre is an important part of our arts culture. I will be analysing the live performance of I Am A Lake directed by Jane Johnson and presented by Mudlark Theatre on March 1 at the Earl Arts Centre. I Am A lake focuses on the hardships of a domestic violent life and the way they survive and forgive each other, hoping to have a better life In a small excluded area in Queenstown, based in the 1980’s. The criteria I will be using to critic I Am A Lake is the performances by the actors, the director’s artistic decisions and the technical design.

Authors, poets, and musicians have a special ability to get in touch with people’s emotions, but the artists of the Harlem Renaissance were exceptional at conveying their point of view to others. Many life changing events happened during the Harlem Renaissance, as well as the Roaring ‘20s. Of all of the writing periods the Harlem Renaissance preserved history through the diverse forms of art and writing that was produced during that time.

Scat is a way that humans use their mouth to make instrumental sounds. Jazz is a type of music that is relaxing to some and is played with a saxophone. The difference between bluegrass, scat, and jazz is that each song tells a different story.

Rent is a contemporary musical revolving around a group of poor, struggling, young artists, or “Bohemians.” It is set in East Side New York City in the height of the 1990s HIV/AIDS epidemic. Despite obstacles of sickness, financial difficulties, and death, the characters locate the ability to remain optimistic and positive. Rent has proceeded to become extremely successful and iconic in modern day musical theatre.

This new agreement is a significant push into the Broadway scene for DKC and its entertainment department, led by Joe Quenqua, who joined DKC in 2013 after a lengthy vocation as a Disney publicist. Since DKC offices are in L.A., San Francisco, Chicago, Miami and Washington, D.C., DKC/O&M is now listing itself as the first ever PR agency for Broadway and other live events. “Broadway is such an important component for DKC, in terms what they want to do and where they want to go (sic).
Apparel exceeded my expectations. I have been to several Broadway Lights shows in Charlotte over the years, and this production is one of the better ones I’ve seen, if not the best. The stage was designed very well for the show, the story was excellently written, and the play resonated well with a contemporary audience. My immediate response to the layout of the theater was that I didn’t like it because I am not a huge fan of theater performances in the round.
When compared to the average Broadway shows, this was a change as it had more music which was extremely complex and unconventional with a wider variety of musical genres; from vaudeville and Latin rhythms to bebop fugue and quasi-operatic ensembles. West Side Story is also important with regards to making significant changes in the concept of musical theatre. Before this musical was brought out, musicals generally focussed on more pleasant, light-hearted subjects. West Side Story’s use of street slang, a dark urban landscape, and the subject of gang warfare, therefore challenged the normally accepted, and controversial musical subjects. It therefore opened the door for Musical Theatre to explore more serious topics and unpleasant subjects, and furthermore, to challenge society through the use of an entertainment medium which everyone enjoyed.
En Masse, Rock and Roll has influenced various areas of the youth culture amid the 1960’s, dominating many areas of the world. The popularity and international outlook for rock music resulted in a compelling impact on society as Rock and Roll influenced everyday fashions, attitudes, and behaviors. Drawing on many different styles, this genre of music excited a worldwide generation of young listeners, while, at the same time, distressing musical, cultural, and social authorities. Presently, it is tough to fully understand the bitter criticism the new music generated in its entirety. Rock music gave shape to many different counter-cultural movements which engulfed the world.
The style a band or singer portrays gives the audience a specific image of the artist and is what differentiates one singer to the next. The music seems as if there is a late night zen feeling (Turner). The Neighbourhood’s style is more laid back, it gives the feeling of peace and serenity.
