The atmosphere is changing more and more everyday. In the article, “Global Warming” by Holli Riebeek on the NASA website, it is explained that global warming is happening to our planet everyday. It was written on June 3, 2010. The article explains what global warming is, and what the Greenhouse effect is. This article is strictly facts, and are not biased whatsoever. The author wrote it to inform the reader about Global Warming and a few other issues with the weather and atmosphere.
The earth’s surface is an important topic to think about. The author stated that “The global average surface temperature rose 0.6 to 0.9 degrees Celsius (1.1 to 1.6° F) between 1906 and 2005, and the rate of temperature increase has nearly doubled in the last 50 years”. She says that the temperature has risen a lot between the past 99-100 years. She also says that it is almost certain to keep rising up in the next few years. …show more content…

She writes, “If there were no greenhouse effect, the Earth’s average surface temperature would be a very chilly -18°C (0°F) instead of the comfortable 15°C (59°F) that it is today.” So, the greenhouse effect would definitely contribute to global warming. The author says that “When global warming has happened at various times in the past two million years, it has taken the planet about 5,000 years to warm 5 degrees. The predicted rate of warming for the next century is at least 20 times faster.” If it’s at least 20 times faster, it’s expected that the earth is going to heat up extremely fast. Riebeek says later on that global warming used to happen just because of natural causes, not human activity. But, it later changes on to humans being the cause of this. The natural causes are are still happening today, but they aren’t as fast as the human
