Transformative Essay: The Reality Of Climate Change

1950 Words8 Pages

The Reality of Climate Change Are people really aware that the climate is changing? Are they aware of the effects that Earths varying temperatures will have on them? The topic of climate change is very controversial and has many viewpoints associated with it. The three viewpoints that will be discussed throughout this paper will be; climate change is real and is caused by human intervention, climate change is not real, and the final view to be discussed in this paper is that the climate changing is just a part of Earth’s natural heating and cooling cycles. Also discussed in this essay will be how climate change will affect the human population in the years to come. The United States Environmental Protective Agency defines climate change …show more content…

Paleo data covers the past one-million years. The paleo records state that the Earth goes through these cycles about every 100,000 years and that the Earth is currently in a warming cycle. OSS states that the Earth generally spends around 80,000 to 90,000 years in the cooling cycle and around 10,000 to 20,000 years in the heating cycle. The reason the Earth goes in and out of these heating and cooling cycles is because of a concept called Milankovitch cycles.
The “Milankovitch cycle’s” concept was developed by Milutin Milakovitch; a Serbian mathematician. According to “Milankovitch Cycles”, the Milankovitch cycles “describe the changes in the way the Earth orbits the sun”. This rotation then changes the Earth’s temperatures in the sense of heating and cooling cycles. The concept states that it looks at three variations of the Earth orbiting around the sun. They say:
The earth’s orbit changes from being nearly circular to slightly elliptical (eccentricity). This cycle is affected by other planets in the solar system and has a period of around 100,000 years. The angle of tilt of the earth’s axis changes from 22.1° to 24.5° (obliquity). This cycle has a period of 41,000 years. The direction of the tilt of the axis changes (precession) on a cycle of 26,000
