 Generally, weather and climate are said to be the same. This is not true. The difference between them is a measure of time. Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are in a short period of time. While, climate is how the atmosphere ‘behaves’ in a relatively longer period of time. Climate includes the patterns of temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind and seasons.

 What is climate change?

• Climate change is the change in the usual weather found in a place. This could be a change in how much rain a place gets in a year or it could be a change in the usual temperature of a place.

Changes occurring in the sun itself can affect the climate change on Earth. The intensity of the sunlight reaching the Earth can cause either warming or cooling. The sun flows a natural 11 year cycle of small ups and downs in intensity, but the effect of it on the Earth’s climate is negligible. However, over the past years, the sun’s intensity has been lower than the mid 20th century, and therefore does not explain the recent warming of the Earth.
• Also, changes in shape of the Earth’s orbit and its tilt can also affect climate as that determines the amount of sunlight that reaches the Earth. Similar to what is mentioned in the previous point; the tilt and position of the Earth’s axis affect temperature on very long timescales. So reports in recent years of abnormal weather around the world and of unusually high temperatures and heavy rains in Japan cause some concern. But while the term climate change has become familiar to everyone, does Japan fully appreciate the possible effects of global warming and the impact it could have on their whole way of life? Do they take any steps to help a better future?
• Technology does not ONLY lead to negatives. It also has many benefits for the people and for the world.
