Global Warming: What Can Licking County Do? Global warming, two words that often raise controversy within humanity. Falling within three categories: for it, against it, and neutral. Whatever one’s stance is towards global warming; an agreement can be reached in living in a cleaner world. Global warming is a rise in the Earth’s global temperature, whether through natural or man-made circumstances. Factors causing global warming through natural means would be volcanic emissions and increased solar activity. The major issue with global warming is the progress of humankind. Increases in industrialization and deforestation, which release the greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide (CO2), act as a blanket in the atmosphere. CO2 with the combination of water vapor, trap heat from the sun between the atmosphere and the earth’s surface, causing a rise in temperature (Haldar, 2011). Globally, tackling this problem will take some serious reform in the way we use fossil fuels for energy. Therefore, I have a few proposals involving the use of albedo and solar panels that should they be adopted in …show more content…

While it is proven that solar panels are tremendously helpful in terms of reducing the use of fossil fuels, it comes with a price. Solar panels are expensive; solar panels are expensive to make, install, and maintain. While solar panels do eventually break even in terms of cost, this takes years of operation to bring a profit. Studies have also shown that solar arrays have the potential to cause changes in temperature and precipitation by altering the amount of solar radiation absorbed by the earth (Harvey, 2015). The biggest problem with solar panels is the cost. However, solar panels have already made an appearance here in Licking County. The Energy Co-op has a small solar array on the outskirts of Utica. Solar panels could be installed all over Licking County at a slow pace to help alleviate the cost over time, instead of one big lump
