During this period, new societies were being shaped and formed in many different places in the world. Globalization changed societies and influenced them. Globalization is defined as when countries develop international influence. This definition represents the process of the development of the countries empires and way they were developmentally influenced by others around them. The Igbos, who were located in West Africa, did not develop a new type of government similar to the Yoruba and Bini. They had begun to grow small states and urban centers, but the Igbo who had a dense population and extensive trading networks declined to follow. Igbo deliberately rejected the kingship and state-building efforts of their neighbors. The Igbos did not have no kings and they relied on institutions to maintain order beyond the village. They traded among themselves and with the large African kingdom of Songhai for cotton cloth, fish, copper and iron goods, and decorative objects. Next, the Iroquois who were becoming fully agricultural, made maize which is a bean technique that originated in Mesoamerica. Scholars at this time speculated that agriculture was largely seen as women’s work, became the primary economic activity, “warfare replaced successful food getting as the way to male prestige.” A conflict among Iroquois peoples triggered a major political innovation around the fifteenth century: a loose alliance or confederation among five Iroquois-speaking peoples-the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca. The deal was called the Great Law of Peace, where the nations had an agreement to get rid of their differences in peace through a confederation council of the clan leaders.
