John: On this show what I like to do is to entertain and I also like inform people that is why today’s episode will be about Gloria Whelan. Gloria Whelan is a poet that wrote 40 books most of them are children books. She also won a lot of awards for her books and how great they are. Moreover, she began making up stories at a very young age
John: And here she is.

1. John: Is the poem the only reason that helped you decide the title of the book?
Gloria Whelan: Well, yes, because when I read Tagore the book of poems, I enjoyed the poem Homeless Bird it was my favorite and while I was reading the poem I was working on a book with the same concept and story of the novel I was writing so I decided to make a connection …show more content…

And the other obvious theme is never giving up. Hari (Koly’s husband) dies as well as her sassur so her sass’s bitterness grows towards Koly. But Koly didn’t give up or run away she found a loophole that changed her life forever.
3. John: Why did hari die so early in the book?
Gloria Whelan: Hari’s death is a very sad event that did come at the beginning of the book, but it’s a very small part of the actual story. And the story goes on very quickly from there and what happens to Koly, the death is just a small part of the book. What is important is the way she thrived although she faced a lot of barriers that stood in her way she got through them and flied away like a bird.

John: Did you ever feel like making this book into a movie?
Gloria Whelan: I did think about making it into a movie, but I decided not to because if someone makes it into a movie. Then you wouldn’t be able to use your imagination to imagine what is happening because you will have all the book planned out for you. You will have a limited amount of imagination.
9. John: Since you wrote the book from a widow’s perspective. We wonder if have you ever met a widow in person.
Gloria Whelan: Actually I once saw a white saaried widow in an exhibit so I went up to her to ask about what she has gone through so I could write the story with the correct information so I won’t give my audience the wrong idea about India. In addition, I asked to her about her embroidery. Which gave me the idea for a way out for Koly.
10. John: What process do you go through to write your books?
Gloria Whelan: I usually I two ideas, that I research more about and find more and more information about that topic. Then I start visualizing what would happen next. But if I don’t have two ideas I won't have able to find a connection. It is just like a pattern; you have to find the connection between them so you could find the next number. It is the same with writing a
