Throughout history, what people considered “important” has changed drastically. What we once considered to be important, could simply mean nothing to us now. In past societies, the prominent glorification was war. In today’s society we most glorify wealth. The reasons behind these may not be clear, but in a society where people are concerned with other people’s opinions of them, these glorifications start to reveal themselves. Between both the past and present, both societies have glorified power. In past societies, people mostly glorified war. The Iliad as matter of fact, celebrated the idea of war. Achilles, the main character in The Iliad, was thought to be the greatest warrior of all time, simply because he was good at fighting. Back then, if a person wasn’t involved in war, they weren’t considered as important as someone who was. Paris, a character in The Iliad, doesn't like to fight, and likewise receives disrespect from his family and his lover. The amount of money a person makes will usually determine their worth as a person. Meaning the more money one has, the more they are liked or the more people look up to that person. The media is a major factor in this idea that wealth is important. For example, the show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” shows a family who reached a glorious amount of wealth by putting very little effort into it. We as people often praise them because the amount of money they made caused them to be famous. We envy who they are and the amount of money they have. A person grows up their whole life wanting to get a job that will pay them the most, rather than a job that they would actually enjoy. Thus creating this idea that wealth is very important and that everyone should glorify it. So as a society we love money and we are not ashamed to admit
