The purpose of this lab was to change pennies from copper to silver to gold, like alchemists have attempted to do in history. Through the data and observations gathered throughout this experiment, it can be concluded that the pennies were not changed into a different element. For example, the density of the penny from 2005; which was the penny that was experimented on to see whether or not it could turn into silver; was 4.62 g/cm3 before the experiment and 4.89 g/cm3 by the end of the experiment. If this copper penny really would have turned into silver, then the density of the penny would be 10.49 g/cm3; which is the density of silver; by the end of the experiment. The penny may have turned silver in color, but this was only because it was plated in the zinc that was added to the beaker of water in the experiment.
My hypothesis for this experiment was not what I expected it to be. Instead of having each section grow in size due to the solution was incorrect. I only had my 1% with solution grow. This is the lowest concentration level I had and my lowest number of brine shrimp in the section without concentration as well. The other sections with my 5% and my 10% concentration ended up with no hatched eggs at all.
Distribution of Plankton in Yellowwood Lake Introduction: Over the duration of two lab periods we collected an assemblage of plankton and tested whether plankters are actively moving or are passive in bodies of fresh water. While working in paddleboats on the Yellowwood Lake in Brown County, IN, we assembled a collection of samples of protists, rotifers, and arthropods. Before starting our study we produced a null hypothesis: plankters are passive. This null hypothesis predicts, where water is mixing uniformly, plankton distribution will be uniform (Clara Cotton, personal communication, October 6, 2016).
Two weeks ago, we did an experiment that involved using goldfish, for this experiment we tested the goldfishes’ ion-osmoregulation by placing them in a salt water. Each goldfish was place in different salinity, therefore; each goldfish gave a different response. The goldfish that were placed in higher salinity, which was about 35‰ (parts per thousand) died quickly and their weight drop tremendously. This response occurred because freshwater fish does not have the ability to survive in saltwater, therefore; their body cannot tolerate the significant change in salinity. Has previously stated in the direction, the original lab experiment was supposed to test sheepshead minnows fish instead of goldfish.
“They were already dying. The change from salt to fresh water had turned their flesh rotten. Long strips of it hung off their bodies, waving in the current”(75). This quotation intrigued me by the use of the fish as a symbolic meaning. It
Also, the fish represent the obstacles that one may face while trying to reach their goal and shaping their ability to achieve it. This ultimately challenges them to decide whether to accept the task and grow or abandon their dreams by giving up. The girl’s the environment around her influenced her hard work ethic and her decision to have patience to accomplish her
Before getting the goldfish subjects, two beakers were filled with 200 ml fish water and weighed. Four goldfish were then collected gently from the fish tank and each two of them were transferred into one beaker. Each beaker along with fish and water was weighed again to determine the weight of each pair of goldfish. For the control group of each trial, the oxygen chamber was firstly filled with 200 ml fish water; after two goldfish along with 200 ml water were transferred into it, it was sealed in order to prevent oxygen exchange with the ambient environment.
The four different environments are: “[the] plastic bag filled with water” (339), the sink, the wok, and the dining table. In addition, the different environment and the time before it was placed onto the dinner table signify the tension built within the family. When the fish was in the plastic bag and the sink, it implies the trapped Malaysian culture within the family. The narrator was able to see and touch the fish’s “gills and the soft muscled body” (339), indicating that she’s able to feel her cultural roots. When the fish was placed in the sink full of water, it fish hopelessly tries to survive.
If you had the chance to have any three wishes granted, what would you wish for? In the stories ‘What of This Goldfish’ and ‘The Fisherman and His Wife’ two men were given a certain amount of wishes. Of course, the wishes came with consequences, and the characters had to have had a reason to wish of these wishes. The stories are similar and yet different in many interesting ways, and are both overflowing with hidden themes and morals. The characters of both stories made some good and bad choices for their wishes; wouldn 't you!
In the story, “What, of This Goldfish, would You Wish?” is about a man, Sergei Goralick, and his magical goldfish that granted him three wishes. Based on Sergei’s own speech, thoughts, and actions, readers can infer that deep down he is depressed and lonely. Sergei kept himself distant from everyone and was not very fond of strangers knocking on his door. One day a boy, Yonatan, showed up at Sergei’s front steps and insisted on asking questions for a movie he was filming, but Sergei was not appealed. As Yonatan still tried to question he was intrigued by Sergei’s magical goldfish, Sergei became overprotective and killed the boy.
This continues to paint a picture of the fish and
After relating a goldfish’s basic needs to our own human basic needs, the students were able to develop a connection to the lesson on caring for goldfish. This lesson required a lot of planning and materials, such as two aquariums, six goldfish, elodea, fish food, conditioned water, basins, cups, paper towels, etc. I needed to make sure there was enough for each group. The two groups were separated by a small bookshelf, which was not effective in blocking noise, but the only reasonable classroom arraignment for this lesson. In addition to having all of the materials for this lesson, I also needed to find a way to make sure that each student had a chance to actually “take care” of the basic needs of the goldfish.
TREE GOLD Once upon a time there lived a girl in a village, named Rara. He lived with his step mother and sister were greedy and cruel. Fish for Small Unheated Aquariums and Goldfish Bowls Filed under: Aquarium Fish Tanks andFish Tank Design andFreshwater Tropical Fish Certain fishes are often kept in bowls or small plastic aquariums that lack heating and filtration equipment. The fish most often kept in this way include goldfish, bettas, white cloud mountain minnows, and danios. Each of these fishes have different pros and cons when it comes to keeping them in this fashion.
Goldfish Diseases, Symptoms and Possible Cures There is a huge range of Goldfish Diseases and Goldfish illnesses such as parasites and infections. These effects are usually increased by overcrowding and not sufficient aquarium care. We will highlight here a few of the diseases particularly relevant to the goldfish. While most can be prevented, it can occur in even the best kept tanks. INFECTIOUS DISEASES: FUNGUS Goldfish diseases This is caused by (Achyla and Saprolegnia) and is a common disease to aquarium fishes, but usually only effect fish that are already in a poor condition (the reason for this is not clear).
