Title- The Effect of pH Balance on Isopod Behaviour Introduction- Isopods, or what your 7-year old self would refer to them as ‘Roly-Polys’, are actually a type of class crustacean. They breathe with gills, so they have to stay in damp areas with high humidity. That’s why you normally find them under rocks (Isopod, Pillbug, Sow Bug Information, 1997).
Distribution of Plankton in Yellowwood Lake Introduction: Over the duration of two lab periods we collected an assemblage of plankton and tested whether plankters are actively moving or are passive in bodies of fresh water. While working in paddleboats on the Yellowwood Lake in Brown County, IN, we assembled a collection of samples of protists, rotifers, and arthropods. Before starting our study we produced a null hypothesis: plankters are passive. This null hypothesis predicts, where water is mixing uniformly, plankton distribution will be uniform (Clara Cotton, personal communication, October 6, 2016).
It seems not possible that the tiny little fry of goldfish can grow to a monster of nearly 2 feet long. However, that is true. The largest goldfish in captivity is in Netherlands.
Before getting the goldfish subjects, two beakers were filled with 200 ml fish water and weighed. Four goldfish were then collected gently from the fish tank and each two of them were transferred into one beaker. Each beaker along with fish and water was weighed again to determine the weight of each pair of goldfish. For the control group of each trial, the oxygen chamber was firstly filled with 200 ml fish water; after two goldfish along with 200 ml water were transferred into it, it was sealed in order to prevent oxygen exchange with the ambient environment.
Temperature regulation is one of many aspects of homeostasis, the ability to maintain an organism’s internal environment at a comfortable temperature. An organism can be a temperature regulator or a temperature conformer. An endotherm is a regulating organism that maintains homeostasis by producing its own heat thus keeping the internal environment stable regardless of the conditions of the external environment. This means that the metabolism of an endotherm is always at a constant, rapid rate. An ectothermic organism is a conformer which means they can’t produce their own body heat metabolically which causes their internal environment to fluctuate with the external environmental conditions.
In this experiment we tested to see if the catfish contained lead by using a lead testing kit. We used the data collected by ORNL in 2011 that is now accessible to the public. We pose that, if the age of the lake is older than the amount of lead will increase in the catfish when the amount of lead in the fish is a function of how old the lake is. Assuming the age of the lake would affect the amount of lead in the fish. The lakes that we picked were Tellico Lake, Melton Hill Lake, Watts Bar Lake, and Fort Loudon Lake.
Based on the data and the recorded observations, my hypothesis is correct. When a solution is hypotonic, this causes the cell to swell, because there are more water molecules on the inside of the cell. If positive feedback continues, the cell will eventually burst. When a solution is hypertonic, this causes the cell to shrink, because there are more water molecules on the outside of the cell. Over time, the cell will start to function poorly (“Difference between Hypertonic, Hypotonic, Isotonic Solutions”).
I can’t believe what just happened! Today, my goldfish died! About 2 weeks ago I won little bubbles at a carnival. As long as I have lived I have begged my parents to get a goldfish! That day was the happiest day of my life.
For our egg osmosis we used a vanilla Starbucks frappuccino as our liquid. Our lab took a total of six days. Throughout the six days osmosis occur through the cell cell membrane of the egg. As the egg was in the liquid the weight of the egg got higher and increased each day. As our data shows osmosis occurred because the weight increased as it absorbed the liquid.
Osmosis Lab Report Introduction: The investigation that I took part in this marking period was titled “An Egg-citing Activity”. In this experiment, I further explored the contents and aspects of osmosis. I also looked more closely at the differences and similarities between osmosis and diffusion. The purpose of the investigation was to examine a raw egg, classified as a large cell, after it had been placed in vinegar for two days and then put in different liquids. To put this into real life terms, the question that was used for this experiment was, how do drinks that we consume affect the cells in our body?
Overall, I think that this lesson was very effective. It gave the students a chance to handle materials and do hands-on activities as a group. They had various opportunities to observe and make predictions about goldfish behavior. Also, since their original classroom goldfish died, they were able to learn ways to take care of the new goldfish properly, and understand why their other goldfish might have died. While there were many effective parts of this lesson, there were still some ways that it was not effective, such as noise levels and group sizes.
Further inspection shows that the fish has been on the end of a fishing rod multiple times on lines (49-54) “grim, wet, and weaponlike, hung five old pieces of fish-line, or four and a wire leader with the swivel still attached, with all their five big hooks grown firmly in his mouth.” Little does she realize her feelings towards the fish is changing
Not knowing who they really are, and what made them this way can only create confusion in a human beings life. As much as they are confused, they are also lost when they are faced with the fish, instead of questioning it’s reality they chose to deny the fact that there
In the story, “What, of This Goldfish, would You Wish?” is about a man, Sergei Goralick, and his magical goldfish that granted him three wishes. Based on Sergei’s own speech, thoughts, and actions, readers can infer that deep down he is depressed and lonely. Sergei kept himself distant from everyone and was not very fond of strangers knocking on his door. One day a boy, Yonatan, showed up at Sergei’s front steps and insisted on asking questions for a movie he was filming, but Sergei was not appealed. As Yonatan still tried to question he was intrigued by Sergei’s magical goldfish, Sergei became overprotective and killed the boy.
Ccan you put a goldfish in cold water without it dieing? In fact you can put a goldfish in cold water and the fish can live after being in cold water (Davis). My paper is about goldfish and if you can put them in cold water and them live. First we are going to talk about the common goldfish. and other breeds of goldfish.
