Throughout the Revolutionary Years The book “to live” follows a man named Fugui throughout his life story as an adult about personal and political disturbance of the late twentieth century. It shows how gender relationships change, the problems people faced like sicknesses, job loses, starvation, family issues, and political problems. Throughout the story, the narrator, Fugui, shows examples of all the problems people faced during the revolution and how hard it was on families, but in his own way. Fugui is the main character in the story and he is the son of a rich landowner.
Maoist did not care much about family but cared more about its legacy and development. The story is written from a woman point of view, and the reader can know about the lives of various women during the revolution. However, misfortunes that befell on Yang ushered well-being, the people who ate crabs must have eaten spiders too. After realizing that past experiences were terrible, then the people who ate spider can tell the people who have not tasted spiders that, spiders are not tasty (Yang 194). The lesson from the book is people who experienced Cultural Revolution in China deserve gratitude, and they can, without doubt, say that the revolution affected the Chinese in a harmful and detrimental way.
It’s early twentieth-century China. The vast majority of the citizenry is poor dirt farmers, growing and harvesting a meager living off of the land. Contrary to the general public, a farmer named Wang Lung has managed to rise from dirt to gold, poverty to wealth. When he has sons, however, they end up no longer respecting their elders, no longer farming the land, and no longer honoring the gods or giving them credit for their family’s success. In The Good Earth, Wang Lung’s children are raised in an atmosphere of privilege, leading them away from their family’s traditional values.
Mao Zedong, one of the most influential leaders in Chinese history, once said that, “Of all the things in the world, people are the most precious.” One of the biggest problems that he faced was the growing population of China. At first, he discouraged birth control, but when the growth rate was growing astronomically, Mao introduced “Late, Long and Few.” When even this was not slowing down the population growth, China implemented a one-child policy. It allowed for the Chinese population to have one child, and was far more harmful than beneficial to China.
The Chinese civilization from 100 C.E. to 600 C.E. rose as one of the major unified empires. While this society grew, there were aspects of culture and politics stayed the same but many changes also occurred. As the empire developed, family units and social classes remained stagnant. Despite these continuities, changes such as the popularity of Buddhism within society due to Indian missionaries and a shift in political rule occurred. During the time period 100 C.E. to 600 C.E. the family unit system remained intact despite the intellectual advances.
The Chinese communist party gained much power after going after and attacking the Kuomintang and its anti communist policies into Taiwan. With the growth of the communist party’s power, the peasant and lower class experienced major influence that would change the course of their lives forever. Chinese peasants and the Chinese communist party between circa 1925 and circa 1950 had a relationship in which the party fostered and cared the state of the people. This created a sense of nationalism and pride for the peasants, while they were advocating social equality, and showing anti-Japanese sentiment. Family by Pa Chin is a captivating novel that describes what life in China was like in the twentieth century. Confucianism, a big religion in China at the time, was heavily focused on filial piety. Filial piety is the relationship of obedience, in which the elders are to be respected by the younger generation (Wu, lecture notes, 2015). This religion was one of the main structures on how the society was ran. Chin represents how the younger generation was upset with how the old traditions of the Confucian system were ran and that they were ready to change it.

Different periods throughout China’s history have different names, known as dynasties, for the diverse positions within its society. Theoretically, all of the periods are similar, with the government and military officials ranking high in the hierarchy, and the average everyday people being under regular Chinese law. Throughout China’s history, the society has been organized into a hierarchic system of socio-economic classes, known as the four occupations. The four occupations system seems to have become distorted after the commercialization of Chinese culture during the Song Dynasty. Even though the social rankings within the country are not as predominant as they once were, the people living within the country still know their “place” within the society.
