Based on the book, The Body, by Stephen King, Stand by Me is a story about 4 boys(Gordie, Chris, Vern, and Teddy) who go on a quest to find the body of their deceased friend, Ray. In the movie, developmental changes occur as the boys mature through painful, fun, and discovering of self scenarios.
From the beginning to the end of the film, Gordie’s actions and thoughts change dynamically. There were several factors that played into his maturation such as: the neglect from his parents, the death of his brother, peer pressure, the finding of his dead friend, etc. With the death of his brother, his parents treated Gordie even worse than they did when his brother was alive. Chris would talk to Gordie as if Gordie was his little brother and told him that he would always be there for him since his parents wasn't. Gordie in return inspired Chris to do better and school and influenced him to take AP classes and eventually go to college. Before they went on the quest to find their dead friend Roy, their motive for finding him was that they would be looked at as heroes, but upon finding him they changed their minds about bringing him back to the town, and instead calling anonymously and letting the officials know where the body was. While around the body, Gordie sat down and had a brief memory of his brother. When the boys get back to the town, all their views on the world has changed. Gordie says that although the town hasn’t changed, it feels smaller. He comes to this realization because he knows the world is much bigger than just
