A famous chef that has probably been on your tv screen one time or another is a man named Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay was born on November 8th, 1966 in Glasgow, Scotland. Although Scottish at birth, him and his family moved when Ramsay was five he grew up in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, England. He is currently married to Tana Ramsay, and they have four children: Megan, twins Holly and Jack, and Matilda. In his early days, Ramsay aspired to be a professional soccer player. He had actually joined a professional club called the Glasgow Rangers. However, an injury to the knee put an end to his athletic career prematurely in 1985. Right away he became the head chef of a restaurant in London called Aubergine. He received a two-star Michelin rating there and was awarded Newcomer of the Year in 1955. Young, cocky, and confident he opened up his very own restaurant in 1998. Located in London, he named his new establishment Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, and it was rated as a three-star Michelin place for the “high-end foodies”. However, this accomplished chef wasn’t done yet. He also opened up several new restaurants over a several year period, including Petrus, Verre in Dubai, and a second Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London. These high end restaurants are some of the most successful the culinary world has ever seen. In 2000, Ramsay was named Chef of the Year by the Catey Awards. He was first a judge on the BBC hit show Master. Then he was the focus of minishow called Boiling point that followed his journey of creating his first restaurant. That documentary was so successful that it sparked a second miniseries called Beyond Boiling Point in 2000. In the spring of 2004, Ramsay sought to help turn around failing restaurants on the television show Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. A second popped up around the same time called Hell’s Kitchen, where chefs compete in a cooking contest where they are judge my audiences and famous celebrities and chefs from around the world. Meanwhile, he also launched another series of culinary professions over in the U.K, called The F Word. Strong ratings in America led to many more successful television shows for Ramsay.
