The way the Gospel of Wealth was justified was that it was the duty of wealthy people to use their money for good towards the community. It was believed that they should donate large portions to the poor. The wealthy people would help others make money by using their own money. This was a big influence on American society because philanthropic works would receive large donations from those with large fortunes. Advocates of this idea greatly helped to advance social progress through contributions and donations.

Because of this, things like the “Social Gospel” and “The Gospel of Wealth” were brought to people’s attention. “The Gospel of Wealth” was an essay written by Andrew Carnegie in 1889 that described the responsibility of philanthropy, which is the desire to promote the welfare of others. It was expressed by the donations of money to good causes, by the rich. The idea was that each individual work for himself in gaining wealth.
Andrew Carnegie was the one who wrote the Gospel of Wealth and it was a positive idea for the people who are not wealthy. Carnegie says that the upper class has a responsibility to address the issues of the wealth inequality. In the Gospel of Wealth, Carnegie stated that the wealthy class can be a better state than the government or state. Carnegie also states that the wealthy should dispense wealth and it should be a way that does not promote drunkenness. Carnegie argues that there are two types of wealthy people.
In chapter 3 of Speaking of Jesus, Carl Medearis talks about what it means to own Christianity. He says "If we don't truly know what the gospel is, we have to find an explanation for Christianity." Meaning that if we do not know what the gospel is or what it is teaching us, then we try to define it by our own standards, and that is where it gets messy. Medearis talks about how Christianity is more than a religion, but it is a relationship and people tend to not understand that. He explains why people are so defensive and put up their guards towards Christians, because Christians can be so judgemental.
During His time, both classes never assorted together, and it was common for the rich not to help the poor. Kraybill aims to help the readers to see Jesus’ teachings from a different view. Kraybill believes

The wealthy men are, “skilled and intelligent,” and view that being in “Poverty is a kind of character flaw.” Though he clearly does not feel sorry for these people because he believes it is deserved, the main point of the gospel is that the Wealthy should give back to the people.
The “A Gospel of Wealth” it states the options of a way of disposing wealth. Andrew Carnegie believed that rich people had the chance to help out the poor not by just handing out money but by giving free education, building free libraries and items that are beneficial to improve society in knowledge.(Carnegie 26) Also, poets were able to make certain people into heroes after they have died, no matter what deeds they have done. In the story of Luke, Luke addresses a direct audience in each parable as he writes. In doing this, Luke connects his audience to a certain messages designed for each group and to assure his messages are hitting home in the hearts of his audience. In the parable of a Rich Fool (Luke 12: 13-21), Luke’s audience is directed towards the rich. Luke’s definition of the rich is a person who has an abundance of possessions. The story of the parable is to exploit the foolishness of wanting more than necessary.
