Graduate School Application Essay

Animation has been a big part of my life ever since I started to know animation exists in this world. I have a great passion for animation and I have always wanted to learn it deeply in every aspect. Watching and producing animation are the biggest activities in my daily life. I have been creating my own animation characters since I was 10, I used different mediums such as pencils and computer software. Each medium has resulted my work very differently. I keep improving myself, I wish to become professional and learn more about animation by studying in a professional school. Furthermore, I have created stories for my characters. I believe that studying the program of Digital Art and Animation in DigiPen would benefit my skills and increase …show more content…

I had only been creating animated characters in the beginning. However, I started to write stories for my drawings couple years ago and had studied in an animation high school for a year. I want to produce animation with stories in order to increase variety, thus, I joined animation clubs in school and communicated with animation lovers. I often interacted with professionals, teachers, and friends about their ideas. They told me that basic skills, such as sketching, are the most important things to start from. Therefore, I have especially practiced sketching from that time. Moreover, I had attended animation contests a lot of times to enrich my experiences and had realized that a good story is also an important factor for successful animations. I joined stories telling club and participated in stories creation contests. Though I did not get a prize, I learned from the failure and would never give up on my passion. I also got the comment from the judges of the contest, saying that I have a strong storytelling ability and creative story, but I jumped out of the rules and the topic. Since then, I started to find topics and practice to write stories focused on a topic. I have also put my animated characters and my stories on blogs and Facebook to let viewers leave comments or give suggestions in order to improve my work. I have kept practicing my drawings on both paper and computer as well as creating new stories. I have also created my first animation in movement. I have been preparing myself for this field from different ways, and I will keep learning and working on
