In the United States, there are many famous people, inventions, and wars. In Washington D.C., there are many monuments celebrating and remembering these famous people and events. One memorial, a couple miles south of Washington D.C., is Mount Vernon, also known as the home of George Washington. The property is more than just his home; it is his birthplace, his home, and it is his grave. Mount Vernon was built long before George Washington, but for 45 years, he almost completely remodeled and expanded the home to reflect his status as a Virginia gentleman.
The article “Flood of Memories” covers the series of flooding that San Antonio experienced, beginning with the Flood of 1921. Miller uses his writing to convey his personal opinion as well as provide historical facts with regard to the true source of destruction. In “Flood of Memories”, Miller illustrates the racial bias and disregard for human safety in the southern and western parts of San Antonio during the Flood of 1921. Char Miller opens his article with a recalling of an emotional event during the Flood of 1921. He describes how the showers were at first seen as a blessing.

Come to Pennsylvania! With religious freedom and civil liberty, we’re second to none. We don’t embellish slavery but instead, peace. In addition, each land owner has the right to vote. We have a representative assembly, to portray the citizens needs.
Coming to Cal was great for me because it was the first time I had found a real LGBTQ community. Growing up I always moved schools so most of my friendships were fleeting and upon settling for high school the Gay Straight Alliance club was extremely small so coming to Cal provided a great sense of community and belonging. The summer before my first fall semester, I took a few classes to get a feel for the campus which ended up coinciding with Obergefell v. Hodges and SF gay pride which is where I made a lot of friends. Whether it is going for drinks in the Castro, dressing up for the Folsom street fair or going to social events at Oscar Wilde, Cal has provided an amazing sense of acceptance and a safe space. During the spring semester, I preformed
Marching band; copious amounts of people scoff at the sound of those words. I often hear students commenting on how easy marching band is, how we don’t train like the football players do. At Anderson High School, that’s not the case, the marching band trains for just as long. As a band of over 125 individuals, it takes determination, pride, and confidence to achieve the goals we have set forth to accomplish. As a leader of the saxophone section, I know what it’s like to face failure, to overcome and turn it into success and to march on with confidence.
But due to the weather and the long 1 hour drive from Richardson in this raining weather last Saturday, I didn’t want to take the risk. The drive was long with a few constructions on the way. In some area, I cannot see the few cars in front of me due to the heavy rain. But by the end of the day, I found this was so so so much worth my time. I get to meet people that I would have never met if I keep staying in my old circles.
I am thankful for many things. In America, from the time we are adolescent, we are bombarded with the conception that we can be more, do preponderant, amend our circumstances, and become whomever we optate to be. That’s not the case in many countries around the world. Here we are enheartened and expected to explore, to discover, to endeavor, and even to fail. When we do fail, we get up, brush ourselves off, and keep right on peregrinated.
Congratulations to all of our graduates. You’re officially ‘Sandburg Survivors’. But what does that really mean? Today, you will have the honor of leaving with a certificate in your hand, and a little pride in your heart. You will leave feeling, hopefully at least a little good about yourself, but how will everyone else feel?
Hello, my name is Colin Balnave, I’m a seventh grader from Norup International School, the middle school you decided to mail a letter to. I have decided to join the “Amazing Mail Race”, and I was very interested in the idea of that. As I said before, my name is Colin Balnave. I love playing tennis, soccer, and football. I other favorite hobby other than sports is video games.
Lone Star High School is a location where students can feel secure and have many opportunities to showcase their skills and leadership qualities. Our campus is built upon five figurative pillars; Integrity, Strength, Stewardship, Loyalty and Perseverance. These pillars are what make us the admirable school that we are today. I believe everyone of our students must have these five qualities in order to ensure success now and later on in the future. As a student I believe that for one to have integrity they must show signs of righteous ethical morals.
Limpid rain was falling into the ground from the sky. The noises from the street become beeping sound and it passes through my ears. I think I have to open party again for them.
In the speech “Steve Jobs Commencement Address to Stanford University, Class of 2005” , Apple CEO Steve Jobs provides his audience with personal experiences and the rough periods he went through in his early years before founding apple that helped him succeed. With the use of his stories Jobs creates a character that prevails through obstacles and manages to achieve his goals, which inspires his audience to look up to him and show that failure is sometimes necessary to succeed. At the beginning of his speech, Steve Jobs begins describing his life with a series of stories that helped him reach his success, this helps Jobs create ethos because his audience will understand the hardships he went through to be where he is today, instead of just thinking of Jobs as the founder of Apple and not really knowing about the struggles he had to go through.
The Storm Lightning crashes overhead as I race back into the house, dripping wet. I was just returning back from an adventure in the woods. The storm was unexpected, even the forecasters had never expected it. Luckily, I managed to make it back inside safely.
