Come to Pennsylvania! With religious freedom and civil liberty, we’re second to none. We don’t embellish slavery but instead, peace. In addition, each land owner has the right to vote. We have a representative assembly, to portray the citizens needs.
To Americans, America is a normal, basic country. America is an argumentative and feeling country with debates around every corner; yet somehow it retains a respectable air for a majority of the time. However, to people who live outside of America, the idea of what America is or could be differs entirely.
This country is great for many reason, despite its hardships. One of the many reasons is that we have freedom to chose, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech. We are also a melting pot for many different ethnicity. Being an American is about the freedom we here enjoy. We are full of different ethnicity and cultures.
Being an American means that if you don’t like the laws, you work to change them through politics. Being an American means dreaming bigger than reason, and working to fulfill that dream. Being an American also means that while you are free to disagree with America’s government and political figures, you realize that America is trying it’s best, and you respect that. Americans know
What does it mean to be an American today? Being an American isn’t hard,but sometimes people just like to not follow things. First thing is being to say The Pledge of Allegiance in school than sitting down on your lazy butt. Second thing is being yourself. For many years, and years to come, America has been a country that many people like to visit and enjoy. We are very patriotic here in America, many people believe in our country’s ways and leaders. People enjoy visiting America not only because of our wonderful land and nature, but also because people like to see what it is like to be free and to have freedom of expression and all of those amendments that make our country free and great. Though we do have great lands and an extremity of beautiful nature surrounding us, especially here in Michigan. America has been known as a very patriotic and fair country, we are the land of the free and home of the brave.
America is the land of the free, home of the brave. As an American I learned those words as soon as I started elementary school. America is the greatest country on earth… or is it? America has a history of oppressing people because of race, occupation, and heritage. Yet as a people we like to say that, that is in the past and now we are inclusive as ever and everyone is considered equal.
What does it mean to be an American today? Or rather, what does being an American entail? Does that pertain to a certain individual’s perspective? Or is Americanism defined through a collective consciousness projected around the world? Over the course of time, Americans have gone through various embodiments of who they are, without loosing the essence of what they represent.

In some of the pieces of literature like “I, Too, Sing America,” “America and I,” “The Bill of Rights,” and “Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty” the authors have different ideas of what it means to be American. They also express their ideas using different strategies: negation, classification, and function. With these ideas and strategies a more complex definition on what it means to be American was developed. Being an American means being patriotic, having freedoms, and believing in a dream of something amazing. Having patriotism is part of being American.
The American Dream is different now than it was 60 years ago, things change and people change. The American Dream is considered “the ideas of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American” according to Websters dictionary, it’s also happiness and comfort to each and every individual, according to me. Key aspects of the American Dream today are happiness, opportunity, and freedom to be yourself or to do what you believe in, but not everyone can and most will not achieve this dream. When you ask a non American “What does America mean to you?” , they will more often than not answer with hamburgers, obesity, NFL and Reality TV. That is okay because who doesn 't love hamburgers and football filled Sundays, who doesn 't love watching silly reality TV shows and who doesn 't love a cheat day every once in awhile? Those people are judging a book by its cover and fortunately for me… well my thoughts about America are quite different. When an individual asks me “What does America mean to you?”
When a person hears or sees the word America, what do they think? America is a country that almost everyone in the world knows about because there are certain words and phrases that can be used to describe it. Some common terms are sports, equality, the melting pot, powerful, freedom, hard working, and some more. All of these words make up what is known as the American Identity. This American Identity has been built up over time by people’s actions and thoughts.
