I love America. I stand for the pledge of allegiance at school, sing the national anthem at sporting events, and salute our troops and our flag. However, I always found it difficult to find the chauvinism to display the love and passion in America I witness so many others do every day. I would occasionally ask people what it is that makes them American. I would often receive the most sanctimonious and complacent of responses. You live in America and “love” the the country, therefore you are an American. Is that really all it is?
