Grandpa Personal Statement

Unlike others, I spent my childhood in my grandpa’s neuro science research lab. Grandpa was a neuro surgeon and sparked my early interest in the field of neurology. Everyday after school, I would dive into Grandpa’s welcoming arms, learning my way around mysterious machines, equipment and cages of various lab animals. I could never forget the thrill when I conducted the first experiment under grandpa’s guidance. Fixing the mouse in a transparent container, turning off all the lights, positioning the scanner at the right angle, finally, I used light as stimulation and then the mouse’s visual cortex lit up like a charismas tree on the scanner. Shaking grandpa, I shouted “we did it!”. From then on, I fell in love with neuro-science As my knowledge advanced, my experiments had to evolve, frequently requiring the sacrifice of lab animal’s lives. This more scientifically enlightened phase under my grandpa’s tutelage only sucked me into deeper and deeper moral confusion. Since I substituted cartoons with lab animals, I considered the test subjects my friends and prefer to do only noninvasive experiments on these animals. So when I found out that Grandpa brutally “murdered” David, my CFW mouse, I couldn’t reconcile …show more content…

Here, with the most advance equipment and pioneers in the field, I thought this was the closest time I’ve been to the cure. By stimulating certain sections of brain, we could observe the intricate neuro response of mouse to find the method to cure certain diseases. Using cauculated sequence and intensity of laser beam to stimulate brain section, I made efforts to enhance memorize efficiency and to reverse the recession of brain functions. I divided frontal lobe into eight sections, analyzing the prospect observation when given the 5.3 seconds gap laser sequence and reaffirm the connection of short wave length light stimulation and the activity of
