Physical disabilities are a lie. Having physical disabilities is an excuse for the weak to feel like it is not their fault. They are sold to people to get those who claim to have it to empty their pockets for a cure that will claim to solve all their made up problems when in reality it is all in their head. This is how some argue against depression. Just because depression can't be seen, does not mean it doesn't exist; just because those with depression can be withdrawn, does not mean they are selfish; and just because depression is over diagnosed, doesn't mean it's not important to get diagnosed. Depression is a hidden illness that many argue is not a real mental illness, and that's because everyone at some point in time will become depressed, those diagnosed are faking it or seeking attention. According to Anxiety and Depression Association of America, "At any point in time, 3 to 5 percent of people suffer from major depression; the lifetime risk is about 17 percent." (Kessler). Meaning many people are likely to get depressed. But just because there is a high prevalence of people with depression, doesn't mean it should be ignored, or brushed off as not a big deal.
