Throughout great expectations by charles dickens the character pip makes various poor choices that caused him numerous types of consequences and punishments. Pip commits crimes such as stealing and also battery, also pip acts upon lying. pip stole food and a file for the escaped convict, hit the pale young gentleman, fell madly in love with estella and caused herbert to be in debt. In the after process of these actions pip surely does feel guilt or serve a massive punishment in some way. To begin with, pip feels guilt at the dinner table. the family have Christmas dinner, they invited Uncle Pumblechook. he says "My state of mind regarding the pilfering from which I had been so unexpectedly exonerated, did not impel me to frank disclosure; but I hope it had some dregs of good at the bottom of it." this is saying that pip hopes there can be some light at the end of this action because he did not want to do this him self he was forced. pip wants too but is not able to confide joe about what he had done. soon me.pumblechook ask for some pork pie. His extreme fear rises when mrs.joe heads to get the pork pie. luckily for pip, the police knock on the door searching for the convict, and ask for Joe's help. Pip also goes along, but he is still fearful because when the convict is found he might give pip away. throughout this whole scene pip feels lots of guilt and fear for his actions. this is one main reason of his bad choices leading to a punishment. Secondly, Pip is also punished after hitting the convict and expects to be in jail, greatly hurt by miss havisham or attacked by the mercenaries. In the beginning of Chapter 12 he says, "I felt that the pale young gentleman's blood was on my head, and that the Law would avenge it" page 93. pip fought with the pale young gentlemen for many days. Pip will not
