Over 37 million people suffer from poverty in the United States. The American dream can only be unrealistic considering one of America’s biggest issues being poverty. The American dream has become unreachable to numeros struggling minorities in this country. Despite the American Dream in the novel Great Gatsby may look similar to today’s, today’s dream is significantly different in various ways. Undoubtedly, the American dream has changed by many means. One being the standards set by society for whatever social class a person were to be considered. The feeling of insufficiently achieving a curtain exception can be defeating the purpose of the American dream, by patronizing the freedom and value of diversity in this nation. Gatsby’s lifestyle was not respected or admired to be seen as achieving the American dream. “So while Gatsby's story arc resembles a traditional rags-to-riches tale, the fact that he gained his money immorally complicates the idea that he is a perfect avatar for the American Dream.” (Source A) Gatsby earning his money in a dishonest way put a very bad image on his behavior of lifestyle that was not favored to the so-called American Dream. People in today’s world have the freedom to make their income in many different ways that do not make them any less than others. The diversity seen in today’s society can be set as a privilege as freedom was not seen before.
