Comparing and Contrasting The Great Gatsby Novel to The Movie (1974)

There are many differences in movies based on books and The Great Gatsby is a good example. Many movies are not good as the books because certain details or even characters have been left out. In some cases the characters are in the movie but not portrayed as they are in the book or certain scenes are apart of the movie but not in the right order. The Great Gatsby movie and novel differ in many ways, certain scenes and people have been taken out but the main idea is still there.
CHARACTERS
The characters in The Great Gatsby do not live up to the ones in the book. Dan Cody was erased completely from the movie which was odd considering the fact that he was the one who had sculpted Gatsby's attitude, taught him to be proper, and how to present himself. The backstory of Dan Cody also enlightened the readers on how Gatsby was responsible for making sure he did not get too messy when he was drunk, which leads to Gatsby refraining from alcohol since he had personally seen the effects of it. The whole perspective was changed, in the book Nick is telling the story, he is present in every scene and narrates as he remembers or retells stories someone else told him but he is the source of the whole plot while in the movie he is not seen as an important character even though the whole book was him writing about his past. Even the most important part of the book- when gatsby meets nick- s different from the book. When Nick meets Gatsby in the book he does not even realize that he is talking to the host of the party, aka gatsby, and in the movie he calls nick specifically to talk to him, like how he did in the book when he called for
