The Great Pyramids of Giza are considered one of the seven wonders of the world. It is part of the seven wonders because they are the oldest monument and its huge size and shape are still wondering to the current architectures. They create lots questions in the mind, who built it, how they built it, how many people were required, and how long it might have taken. In the long desert of Egypt, these pyramids are still great points of attraction for travelers.
The first pyramids were built around the Dynastic Era that is approximately 2950 B.C. The oldest pyramid is known dates back to 2630 B.C. at Saqqara known as the Step Pyramid. The Great Pyramids of Giza are one of the most famous pyramids, they are located on a plateau on the west bank of the Nile River. “The oldest and largest of the three pyramids at Giza, known as the Great Pyramid, is the only surviving structure out of the famed seven wonders of the ancient world.” (History.com Staff.) Pyramids were still built during the fifth and sixths dynasties. The Great Sphinx is part of the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. The age of the Great Sphinx is still a riddle but most people say it is 4,500 years old. There are more than 100 pyramids from Ancient Egypt. That meant over 100 pharaohs and other important people were sent to the afterlife. Some people thought the pyramids were used to store grain and there is proof that it wasn’t. “They're incredibly solid and usually only contain a few claustrophobic chambers, connected by long, sloping pathways and concealed entrances, in order to confuse potential tomb raiders.” (MacDonald, Fiona) There were also instructions how to get to the afterlife. You could also find sarcophagi, mummies, and burial tools. Sometimes there might be some grains in the pyramid but that was a part of the burial
