Harriet Tubman had plenty of achievements, but I will be telling you about her top notch achievements. I believe that her best accomplishment was being a Caregiver, then Civil War Nurse, Underground Railroad Conductor, and Civil War Scout. Harriet Tubman, born as Araminta Ross, was born in 1822, in Dorchester County, Maryland. She was also born into slavery. I chose to talk about Harriet being a Caregiver, as her greatest achievement, because she took care of the homeless, those in poverty, and small children, including babies. She worked as a Caregiver for about 45 years. This is why I think Harriet Tubman being a Caregiver is her greatest achievement. I think Harriet Tubman’s greatest achievement was being a caregiver, because she took care of all people who are physically disabled. In Document E, it says that she helped, “The aged, the babe deserted, the epileptic, the blind, the paralyzed, etc. all found shelter and welcome.” Harriet Tubman was a Caregiver for the rest of her life, after helping fugitive slaves escape slavery. She helped the U.S. Military, and Army, by healing those in pain, and wounded. According to Document D, She first started as a Civil War Nurse, seven weeks after the Combahee River Raid, and she first started on Fort Wagner, in Charleston Harbor. The soldiers that she healed, were those who were wounded survivors of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteers. Even though the army did not pay Tubman, she was still able to make money, by making and selling a great quantity of gingerbread, and 2 casks of root beer. Harriet Tubman’s nursing efforts were not very well recognized by the Union army, because she never received pay, or pension.
