Macbeth Character Analysis Thesis: Macbeth commits evil deeds in the play because he is a greedy backstabber and feels no empathy for his fellow man. Macbeth’s greed is made very obvious in the story based upon the quote “On which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, / For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires;,” (1.4.51-52).
Greed and jealousy live inside everyone, but one must refrain from these thoughts to prevent self destruction. In William Shakespeare's Elizabethan era Tragedy Macbeth, Shakespeare uses betrayal as a vehicle for obtaining power for selfish means, and illustrates the grave costs of betrayal to the individual. Greed often fuels an uncontrolled lust for power. Shakespeare reveals the extent of Macbeth’s greed when Macbeth's first thought regarding the witches prophecy stir thoughts of murder: “ My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical”(I.iii.152). Most individuals do not think one should murder someone to obtain what you desire.

The quote derives from pure sentiment felt by the poet and social activist Nestor Zurita. The play Macbeth in contrast is about trickery, greed and political ambition. The play Macbeth carefully examines politic-like principles, through different examples of kingship by Duncan, Macbeth and Malcolm.
Greed causes even the best of men to brood immoral intentions. The Tragedy, Macbeth by William Shakespeare, describes the flaws of human nature and the traumatic effects unrestrained ambition may cause. The play commences, featuring Macbeth as an eminent, highly esteemed Thane and loyal warrior to the king; however, after being prophesied by the three witches, a torch of ambition is lit. Furthermore, upon hearing the witches prophecies, his reputation is downgraded as he steps into a realm of evil, and more tragically, finds that he has “in blood stepped in so far that should [he] wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o’er”. After murdering the rightful king of Scotland, Duncan, and therefore subsequently, one murder leads to another; to a point where he cannot return from his life of evil “I am in blood stepped in so far that should I wade no more, returning were as tedious as go o’er”.
In the play's final moments, Macbeth's combination of gullibility and greed drives his downfall. Consumed by his aspiration for power and kingship, he unquestioningly accepts the witches' prophecies, failing to question their motives or consider the potential consequences. Macbeth's gullibility towards the witches' predictions showcases his fixed confidence in their truthfulness. However, when he witnesses the movement of the trees in Birnam Woods, he becomes alarmed, believing that the prophecy is coming true. In a desperate attempt to defend himself, Macbeth exclaims, "And now a wood comes toward Dunsinane.
“There is a sufficiency in the world for man 's need but not for man 's greed.” This quote was spoken from a wise Indian activist, what he says is a correlation towards the rising greed aspect of the character Macbeth. This play Macbeth was about a soldier who became greedy with power. It is about Macbeth’s Tyrant display when he kills Duncan and orders Banquo to be killed and other violent acts.
Lady Macbeth explains to Macbeth that he should use his noble strength to think of things before he does them. She exclaims to go get water to wash the blood off of his hands. Macbeth exclaims that, “Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine, making the green one red” (Shakespeare 2.2.78-82). Macbeth portrays imagery when he asks “Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood”.
Macbeth is a play that is written by William Shakespeare in 1606 and the main goal is to make the audience members or readers think that excessive ambition will have horrible consequences in the end. Over the course of the book Macbeth receives prophecies from multiple people, his wife tries to make him something that he is not, by getting him to kill anyone that she wants him to. Throughout the book the main character Macbeth drastically changes from being brave to being cowardly. He also changes from being loving to being greedy, and last he changes from being very trustworthy to being very untrustworthy. As a thane of Scotland, Macbeth loves and serves King Duncan even if it means his own death.
Greed is a very risky aspect in life it’s a win-lose situation most of the time. William Shakespeare shows a wonderful example of this in his play “Macbeth.” In this play Lady Macbeth and Macbeth have a mindset that Macbeth deserves to be King. In order to do this they have to find a way to “overthrow” Duncan, the current King. Lady Macbeth is so determined that her husband would make an amazing king, but the way they come along to get Macbeth his royal spot is not so amazing.
Both greed and power, if not controlled, can lead to destruction. Throughout William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Shakespeare uses both characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to demonstrate how ambition can change one’s personal relationships. As in the beginning of Act 1, Scene 7 Macbeth and Lady Macbeth do not share the same ambition, and it is because of this that their relationship lacks love and affection however through the use of persuasion and other means, Lady Macbeth is able to get Macbeth to pursue her ambition. This not only changes their relationship drastically but it also changes Macbeth’s attitude towards ambition. Throughout the play, Shakespeare shows us through Macbeth, the possibility for ambition to eventually turn into greed and how the lust for power may corrupt us.
Lady Macbeth feels confident about not getting caught killing Duncan. ¨Go get some water and wash this filthy witness from your hand.¨ Shakespeare William act 2 scene 2 lines 45-46. Lady Macbeth is telling Macbeth to get some water so she could wash Duncan's blood off her and Macbeth's hands. The quote given will come back later in the play when Lady Macbeth rubs her hands together to try to get Duncan's blood off of her hands as she sleepwalks.
Is greed in everyone? When we become extremely greedy it never ends up being positive, Shakespeare's Macbeth does a good job demonstrating how greed leads to someone's corruption or downfall. It starts when Macbeth goes to see the three witches. The witches tell him one day he will be king of Scotland by saying, “All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!” (1.3.53) Here the witches are telling Macbeth his prophecy that’ll come in the future.
Greed for power has always been evil and even made a saint turn into a demon. As the quote goes “All power tends to corrupt and an absolute power corrupts absolutely” (unquote), which is true not only in the fictitious stories but also in real life and Shakespeare, th9e greatest writer ever known, has always been in habit of making fictitious character come alive and Macbeth is no exception to the rule. The character of Macbeth has two sides, one which is wholesome while other been dubious. He symbolized great ambition but went overboard and in the process not only became corrupt but also became a killer. Macbeth reflects great strength but within he has his own weakness and thus good over took evil resulting in its downfall and finally his own death.
MacBeth is the main character in Shakespeare's MacBeth and rightfully so. He is the character that changes the most and has the greatest impact on the story. MacBeth is the one whom the tragedy is placed on, and because of this it is his story. MacBeth's dynamic character changes throughout the play driving the story forward and showing the theme of visions of power create ambition in individuals. The first point that has to be explained is MacBeth's dynamic character.
In Macbeth, Shakespeare uses characterization and betrayal to display how too much greed and ambition can consume the greedy. Shakespeare shows us through characterization of Macbeth that he is simply too ambitious, and his ambition causes him to resorts to murder to get and keep the throne.
