This play Macbeth was about a soldier who became greedy with power. It is about Macbeth’s Tyrant display when he kills Duncan and orders Banquo to be killed and other violent acts.
In the play you are able to see that Macbeth has low moral standards. He chooses power and fame over honesty. This portrays how he has allowed his ambition to control him while ignoring the quality of being virtuous and ignoring his immense guilt in committing a murder. He attempted to hide his darkness from the world so that other people would continue to see him as a man that is worthy of honour.
Macbeth was an honorable and loyal soldier to King Duncan. As he stumbled upon the three witches and hearing their predictions. He began to question his future when King Duncan had given a higher rank to his son Malcolm. As if Malcolm was to become king Macbeth’s second prophecy of him becoming king wouldn’t come true or at least it would take a longer time for him to be king. His ambitions toward the crown grew and it slowly but surely began to corrupt his mind.
Both greed and power, if not controlled, can lead to destruction. Throughout William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Shakespeare uses both characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to demonstrate how ambition can change one’s personal relationships. As in the beginning of Act 1, Scene 7 Macbeth and Lady Macbeth do not share the same ambition, and it is because of this that their relationship lacks love and affection however through the use of persuasion and other means, Lady Macbeth is able to get Macbeth to pursue her ambition. This not only changes their relationship drastically but it also changes Macbeth’s attitude towards ambition. Throughout the play, Shakespeare shows us through Macbeth, the possibility for ambition to eventually turn into greed and how the lust for power may corrupt us.
Duncan: "... I have begun to plant thee, and will labour "To make thee full of growing..." Banquo: "There if I grow, "The harvest is your own..." (p. 10) In context, this exchange between two of Macbeth's noblest characters is merely expressing the reciprications between favor and reward. In a broader sense, however, the quote resonates with this Biblical principle: "A man reaps what he sows" (Galatians 6:7b).
Greed for power has always been evil and even made a saint turn into a demon. As the quote goes “All power tends to corrupt and an absolute power corrupts absolutely” (unquote), which is true not only in the fictitious stories but also in real life and Shakespeare, th9e greatest writer ever known, has always been in habit of making fictitious character come alive and Macbeth is no exception to the rule. The character of Macbeth has two sides, one which is wholesome while other been dubious. He symbolized great ambition but went overboard and in the process not only became corrupt but also became a killer. Macbeth reflects great strength but within he has his own weakness and thus good over took evil resulting in its downfall and finally his own death.
What led what seemed to be a nice enough person become such a greedy and ambitious person that made led him to commit many atrocities? And why, even though his best friend heard similar great things didn’t make him do the same things as Macbeth? Let’s find three different places where we get to learn about Macbeth’s personality and motivation. We first encounter the character very early in the play.
The reason the theme is important to understanding the narrative of the book is Macbeth demonstrates several situations where evil turns good and same in reverse. The theme Fair is Foul, Foul is Fair shows itself in the very beginning with Macbeth and Banquo encountering the witches and progresses. After Banquo was murdered the earth was under destruction, disastrous even. This is caused by the unnatural death of Banquo: “Our chimneys were blown down, and, as they say, Lamentings heard i’th’air, strange screams of death And prophesying with accents terrible Of dire combustion and confus’d events, New hatch’d to th’woeful time. In his greed, or desire to fulfill the prophecy, Macbeth murders several people, including King Duncan and Macbeth’s own friend Banquo. As he is trying to talk himself out of murder, he says, “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o’er leaps itself and falls on the other” ,(Act 1 Scene 7 Shakespeare 62). Then Macbeth realizes that greed is his only motivator, yet he continues to pursue the thrown. The theme ambition plays a big role in Macbeth testing Macbeth disloyalty. Macbeth said to himself, “Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires”, (Act 1 Scene 4 Shakespeare 48) “Stars, hide your fires” is personification.
William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, the main character; Macbeth, is seen as an evil character. The play is based off of Macbeth’s decisions and his actions to become King. In the beginning Macbeth starts out as a hero in Scotland’s war with Ireland and towards the end he is transformed into a murderer. Macbeth is not wholly evil because of is heroism in the war, his love for Scotland, and because he didn’t want to kill King Duncan initially.
