In the Greek culture the leading philosophers were Thales, Pythagoras, Heraclitus, Democritus and Plato. It was Plato that used Socrates question and answer method of solving problems in many famous dialogues. Aristotle, one of Plato’s pupils established many rules of deductive reasoning, but also worked with observation in his studies of human behavior. There were many philosophers in the Hellenistic period such as Epicurus the philosopher of moderation. Hippocrates, the father of medicine, that even in todays society new medical graduates recite the Hippocratic oath. Very similar to the Greek and American culture. After reading about the Greek and Norse cultures, there are many similar aspects to them that have helped form out American culture today. Its like anything, cultures evolve and change as time goes by.
