The Greek gods and goddesses were the basis for the Greek religion that was polytheistic. They were used to explain natural phenomenon, human qualities, and life events. The Greeks had 13 main gods and goddesses for the basis. Those Greek gods and goddesses were Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, Aphrodite, Artemis, Apollo, Ares, Athena, Hephaestus, Hermes, and Dionysus. These figures lived on a mountain in a big utopian society with anything they wanted, this mountain was Mount Olympus.

Zeus- King of the gods, ruler of Olympus Zeus was the god of thunder and lightning and basically he was like a god among gods. His symbols were lightning, an eagle, or an oak tree. A myth about him is that he fell in love with his sister Hera and turned into an animal to kidnap and marry her. A myth is that she was seduced by Zeus in animal form and was forced to marry Zeus. Her relationships to the other gods and goddesses is that she is brother to Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades.

Demeter-Goddess of seasons Demeter is the goddess of agriculture, fertility, nature, and seasons. Her symbols are bread, wheat, and the cornucopia. A myth is that her daughter, Persephone, was tricked into eating pomegranate seeds and forced to stay in the underworld.
