the democratic party, the oldest political party, can trace it’s roots back to thomas jefferson.(cit.1,2) In the beginning there were only two parties, the federalist and the democratic. In 1816, the federalist party died out leaving the democratic to be the only running party for around five years.Pre civil war, the party was known for being pro- slavery and anti-civil rights. during the twentieth century, it reinvented itself in support of the working class and minority groups.

Copied from the german green party, the US branch sprouted from a small conference of 62 people discussing issues in their environment and freedoms. Ten key political values were used as a basis of their ideals including, “non-violence” (cit.4) and “global responsibility” (cit 3). These ideas strongly influence their platforms of today. The four main platforms of the green party include : political reform, community, free speech, and foreign policy. Instead of committing to military service, the green party would like to create an alternative, a volunteer service to aid the environment. Also Under the community campaign is fighting for free child care as well as livable wage for families. Their free speech aspect rotates around the idea of free media (mostly to expose environmental wrong-doings). Being that the majority of foreign aid from the US goes to the military, the Green party wants the US government to instead give this money to peace-centered causes. They would also like to reform voting by ending discrimination against smaller parties, allowing equal air time (both radio and TV) for all political candidates, and adding a “ none of the above” choice to the voting ballot. I agree with them on the subject of LGBT rights and same-sex marriage because I believe that all people deserve the federal benefits that come with it. I also agree with their stance on improving conditions for minorities and women. We also need to work harder to preserve our environment. I do not agree with the democrat’s stance on gun control. I believe that guns and other weapons (when used correctly) are what keep our country safe. I also think that their opinion on healthcare sounds good but, will end up hiking up taxes. instead of employing universal health care we should instead use our energy on improving the health care plans of minimum wage workers with families and lessening hospital fees. For my minor party I chose the Green party. I do think that we should emphasize the environment more and highlight what we as individuals can do. I also like the idea of creating a kind of ‘environmental core’ but, don’t believe that it should completely replace our current military. With that being said, I don’t think that the environment should be the main platform of one’s political standing. I really like the peaceful and harmless utopia that the Green party describes, but,it seem an impossible goal to
