The Green Party of the United States
In the United States there are a lot of parties. And each party has a position about the marijuana policy. Although only two dominate the government (Democrats and Republicans), it is important we know a little about the other parties. There is, for example, the Green Party of the United States. This party was founded in 1984 and as the Democratic Party, is a left-wing political party; in other words, it is a liberal political party. The Green Party has several members elected and the state legislature level in California, Maine and Arkansas; and also has some members on the municipal level assuming some important positions such as schools boards, city councils and mayors. However, this party never made to federal level.
The Green Party has 10 keys values and each follows the philosophy of the “Green politic.” Since there are many values that almost defend the same things, let’s approach some of the primaries keys values. The first value is the grassroots democracy, which says that the American people citizens should have more power and participate more directly in the decisions-make process. The second value is the social justice and equal opportunity, which says that every person should be treat equally no matter what is her race, sexual preferences, gender, physic or age under the law. Although these two parties dominate the politics, there are others parties as the Green Party, which has its own values and ways to see other issues. The marijuana policy is a good example of these differences. The Green party is in favor the legalization of marijuana and as the quotation above said, there are other drugs as dangerous as marijuana, but they are legal and sold at a cheap prices.
