In 1776 the revolutionary war began, which followed the French and Indian war in about the 1750’s/60’s. King George the third had know about the war coming up and had also talked with the American colonies. The kind was told not be scared of the United States and that the US were nothing to worry about.
Then the book joins comparing the two important men, Revere and Gage, because they were enemies. After that the book describes the war that broke out and how important everyone who played a part was. The preface starts the book and sets up the time period and briefly explains how Philbrick researched and what he intends to get out of the book. The first part of the book is dedicated to how various conflicts and actions led to the Battle of Bunker Hill. The first chapter starts with the night of the Boston Tea Party where colonists threw tea in the harbor to protest the taxes imposed by Britain. Instead of jumping right in and leading the reader directly to the battles and siege, Philbrick takes the reader back to the French and Indian war, where the colonies had amassed a rather large debt. In order to get the Colonies to pay back the war debt, various acts were passed that taxed the people in various ways.
Jill Lepore used quotes and images from English colonists and portraits to show how colonists wrote about their experiences during King Philip’s War and how the narrative of the war has changed throughout the centuries. It also sets how colonists will narrate wars for future centuries. She spoked about how their writings of the war had a consequence of temporally silencing the Native Americans version on the war and how people have forgotten or even have any knowledge of the war. She uses a Boston merchant, Nathaniel Saltonstall account tilted “A true but brief account of our losses since this cruel and mischievous war begun” written in July 1676 year after the war had begun. He lists towns such as Narragansett, Warwick, Seekonk and Springfield
Brian Regan is a man from Long Island, New York. Growing up, he was often picked on for his dyslexia, which made people think he was unintelligent. After high school, he cheated on an exam to get into the U.S. Air Force, where he met his wife and was very happy. In 1995, he was moved to the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) where he had access to top secret government information and he learned to code. After falling deep into debt, Regan stole over a thousand pages of classified information from the NRO and attempted to sell it to foreign countries.
McCullough starts the book off with the American colonies wanting freedom along with the conflict against the British forces. In 1775 everything led up to the major war that occurred in 1776. Tension is heavily implied between the opposing sides, even before the conflicts. I feel that because of the Americans actions of rebellion and the British forces coming to fight brought up major war between the two. The major conflict is that the colonies in America where still under British rule, yet so far away from England.
The Most important events happened in London, England and Paris, France (1775-1790). A major event that happened in London, England was the bad court system that they had. It shows how bad the court system is by how they charged Charles Darnay with treason. Treason is when you betray your own country and/or when you try to kill someone from that country. The public assumed that he’s felonious of betraying the country so Darnay goes on trial to show that he’s not guilty.
The story took place during the war between the English and French known as the Queen Anne’s War in New England, 1704. Conflict spread throughout North American colonies like that of Deersfield. The French ally with the Mohawk Indians in attempt to capture their prime suspect, John Williams. On the night of February 29 a raid began throughout the town. Demos described the raid and gave detail of the attack.
This book was not difficult to read so I can agree that it is written for young adults. This book, If you come softly, was painfully realistic. The book gives the reader a vivid picture of the American Revolution and get a feel as to what it was like during the 1700s. While reading the book I could see a clear picture of what was happening as if I was actually there. I feel author Christopher is giving the readers a unique twist on the history of the American Revolution. In the book author Christopher doesn’t favor the Americans when telling the story of the war. Instead, he writes the book using the perspective of the British.

With the use of propaganda such as cartoons, films, and several other media induced strategies, the extreme hatred between the Americans and Japanese was increasing.
The Boston Massacre was a big part in the American Revolutionary War. There was many little details of the Boston Massacre that led up to the war. A lot of people were against this war that was brought upon them and others were for it. The Tea Party was from the Boston Massacre and so was the Sons of Liberty. Each event was a part of the war becoming on the people.
