Green Vs Albino Lab Report

The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the amount of green plants versus albino plants that were created in the F2 generation. The results of this lab would allow the scientist to either support or reject the accuracy of the punnett square probability. The probability of the punnett square is that about 3/4 of the plants would be green and 1/4 would be albino. The purpose of this experiment is to investigate the passing of genes from parents to offspring. The hypothesis that was predicted was that there would be more green plants compared to albino plants. This was hypothesized based on the information given in a punnett square. Punnett squares predict that when two heterozygous green plants are breeded together there is a 3/4 probability their child will be green and 1/4 that that they will be …show more content…

This is because there were more seeds that displayed a green phenotype in comparison to albino. The green phenotypes displayed included about 78.2% of the total germination, which is pretty close to the prediction by the punnett square of 75%. On the other hand, the albino germination amounted for approximately 21.8% of the total germination, close to the 25% prediction of the punnett square. The punnett square helps a scientist predict this because if two heterozygous parents are crossed the result is the combinations of GG, Gg, and gg. Both the genotypes of Gg and GG would give the offspring green phenotypes. While gg would give the offspring an albino phenotype. These results were collected by utilizing a stereoscope and looking closely at the leaves that sprouted to see if they were green or albino. However, the leaves were not counted until harvest day. Also, on day 4 some growth was spotted when the roots began growing. Growth continued over the next few days and on day 6 a root was fully visible under the stereoscope. Also notable, was that a good amount of the seeds did not sprout or show a visible
