Photovoltaic Cells Essay

You can have too much of a good thing. This is what seems to be happening in the earth’s atmosphere. Greenhouse gases surround the earth, and trap heat inside. They control the amount of heat coming in and going out of the earth’s atmosphere. Without greenhouse gases, the earth’s surface would be approximately -40C. (Williams, 1996) The gases make sure that the temperature is correct for sustaining life. But recently, there have been too many greenhouse gases released into the air due to human activity. The burning of fossil fuels, landfill sites and animal waste all release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, especially carbon dioxide. If there are too many greenhouse gases, more heat gets trapped inside the earth’s atmosphere. This causes …show more content…

Photovoltaic cells, which can be found in solar panels, convert sunlight into solar power. However they only work when the weather and time is right, making it a temporary source of energy. Artificial photosynthesis would be able to store fuel, making it available even whatever the conditions. Artificial photosynthesis also has the ability to produce more than one type of fuel. The photosynthetic procedure can be altered to make the reaction between CO2, H2O and light produce liquid hydrogen. Liquid hydrogen can be used in hydrogen-powered systems as a gasoline. Hydrogen fuel cells can also produce electricity, which could be used to power a lot of everyday things. The main reason why artificial photosynthesis would be so useful is because it creates fuel from natural resources, so it doesn’t harm the environment. When humans burn fossil fuels, we emit toxic gases into the atmosphere that harm earth and increase global warming. Artificial photosynthesis emits oxygen, and doesn’t harm the earth at all. It is also a lot more sustainable as it uses Carbon dioxide, hydrogen and light energy to create fuel. These are all sustainable resources, unlike certain fossil fuels and oil, which are finite
