Film and Photography Film and photography both have the same purpose; to convey a message or emotion through the process if creation, they are simply done in different ways. The dramatic reenactments in the movie Thin Blue Line relate to the staged photographs in Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters through the purpose of conveying a message or emotion as well as the process of creation. Brief Encounters’ staged photographs convey deep and meaningful messages and are also created in a way which was incredibly close to creating a movie. Gregory Crewdson claims that he tells a story through his photographs, he says “the pictures are about creating a world” which are shown through his elaborately designed photographs. The set of the photographs in Brief Encounters is elaborately designed just like a set for a film, each minor detail adds to the overall meaning and emotion of the photograph. In Thin Blue Line the various perspectives of people shown through the film were as if we were observing in a third-person view just like in many of Crewdsons’ photography. Although the two creative processes may vary, they both are similar in the aspects of providing meaning and emotion. Through the purpose of conveying a message or emotion as well from the process of creation, the dramatic reenactments in the movie Thin Blue Line relate to the staged photographs in Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters. The details in Brief Encounters help bring out the meaning and emotion while the different perspectives in Thin Blue Line help do the same.
