When the number cannot be written in one or two words, however, change the word order of the sentence so that the number does not begin the sentence. The third maxim by Ralph Waldo Emerson is "Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. " Emerson is saying that one's open honesty is importantly treasured. One's honesty is more important than following other people's beliefs. The maxim embodies the theme that people respect others' honesty more than emotionless obedience to conventions set forth by someone else.
Many of Emerson's maxims can be applied to "The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail", one of which state:"Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. " What this means is that there is nothing more important than the strength of what you believe in. This maxim signifies the importance in following your own thoughts. The play is connected to this maxim in the way that one of its characters, "Henry" acts throughout it.

Introduction Nursing is provision of professional care to individuals, families, and communities in order to make them attain, maintain or recover optimal health and resume the good quality of life. Other than the receiving professional training and possessing well-trained therapeutic skills, nurses should also have good ability of interpersonal communication, because during the process of therapy, large amount of communications are involved in it. Nurses and patients will experience an inter exchange of information between each other so as to reach their mutual goals. Hildegard E. Peplau raised the theory of interpersonal relations, the theory explains the phases of interpersonal process and nurses’ roles in different phases, encouraging
The eight key variables tackled in these axioms are verbal communication, nonverbal affiliative expressiveness (or nonverbal expressions), information seeking behavior, self-disclosure (or intimacy), reciprocity, similarity, liking, and shared networks. According to the two theorists, uncertainty decreases when verbal communication and nonverbal expressions between two strangers increase (Griffin, 2014). Examples of nonverbal expressions are arm gestures, head nods and eye contact. The third axiom, on the other hand, states that when a person is uncertain about the other, they tend to seek more information. Intimacy, similarity and shared networks, however, are inversely proportional to uncertainty.
This theory was made by Michael Argyle (1925- 2002), who was a social psychologist. In the late 1960s he studied social skills, body language, non-verbal communication and interpersonal behaviour. In this study, he found that non-verbal signals can be much more important and useful than verbal communication when trying to trigger peoples’ attitudes and feelings. His research showed and found that the stronger the relationship between the people communicating so with close friends for example the much better eye contact. However, when the relationship is not very strong so when speaking to a stranger people don’t have very good eye contact and they tend to look away when talking.
This gets proved when our group member worked together. For intercultural communication, a fundamental problem have to do with is misunderstanding. Because all my group members are from different counties, the culture backgrounds are also quite different. When we started doing our group project, because of the different culture background, the common pre-understanding within our group member is not so much. However, the common pre-understanding is quite important for us to do our group project.
1. A language is a group of symbols with rules which carry messages between people. Language is rule-governed: Phonological rules: It's how words when people enunciate them out loud. There are words which can be same in two languages, however, can sound very different by two natives.
Throughout the program, we have practiced routine assignments such as medical, banking, ODSP application appointments, etc. One recurring idea is that during interactions, we can safely assume that “the second utterance [in a conversation] is functionally dependent on the first one” (Nordquist, 2017, para. 1). If one interlocutor asks a question, the other interlocutor will answer with a response that generally makes sense. Another theory I have found challenging is the idea of truthfulness. “traditional pragmatic theories assume that people should seek to be truthful in their speech actions, through adherence to a maxim of quality” (Gibbs & Van Orden, 2012,
All human beings communicate either with intention or without intention every single day. According to Barth (2014), Palo Alto Team stated “ one cannot not communicate” in one of their axioms of communication. Communication can be defined as “a social process in which individuals employ symbols to establish and interpret meaning in their environment” (Went & Turner, 2014, p. 5). It can be divided into three models in order to enhance our understanding towards the function of communication, which are mainly linear model, interactional model and transcactional model (Wood, 2009). According to Went & Turner, 2014, there are also different traditions and contexts in communication where it helps us to break down difficulty when we attempt to understand communication theory and their process.
