‘growing up poor’ is a documentary filmed and directed by ABC TV , that aired on an episode of of ‘four corners’ in 2012. The documentary is about the poverty condition in Claymore, an estate in New South Wales, entitled “Growing up Poor”. Growing Up Poor asks children what it's like being poor in modern society.These are children living in areas of concentrated disadvantage where the adult world can be a scary place. The documentary is fulfilled by the usage of several documentary conventions and film codes to represent certain groups such as the children, Parents and lastly the controversial government.

This has been accomplished through actuality footage. Actuality footage is footage of action as it naturally occurred. An example of this is when (name of director) integrated this footage and showed us Kristen ,a single mother looking after five children; two of her own and 3 of her sister’s . Kristen sister, the children’s biological mother suffered from serious drug problems which lead to her not being able to protect and care for her children anymore. In a scene in the documentary we see that Jacob, one of Kristens nephews upset and emotional, resulting him to get into an fight with his bigger sister. Moments later Kristen enters the scenes and sits Jacob aside gently asking quote “Whats the matter hun? Look at me please, whats wrong?”. ,From this we understand that through the strenuous times the parental figure being Kristen assists the Children beyond just the survival factor and genuinely cares for them and protect them both emotionally and physically as if they were one of her
