AutoZone began its rise in the do it yourself repair automobile parts store world in 1979 in eastern Arkansas after Joseph Hyde left Wal-Mart (Parnell, 2008). Hyde used Wal-Marts model for retail and expansion and soon had over 100 stores. By 1992, AutoZone had over 600 stores and a billion dollars in retail. As a corporation, AutoZone has grown fully nationwide with additional operations in Mexico and Brazil and Puerto Rico (AutoZone, 2016). AutoZone to this day touts itself as the store for the do it yourself car repair person with tools, diagnostics and other associated materials.
