During the last summer, I had experienced a state of confusion that led me to the realization of something awful. Over the past summer, my dad got me to work at his store which has the stereotype of predominately Muslim workers. There were never many issues that involved people being racist, but there are occasional days where people leave behind some negative comments. I tend not to pay attention to any negativity, but there was a day that left me in a state of astonishment. It was one of those occasional days where a guy was dissatisfied with one of our employees. He started screaming about how we “terrorists” need to leave the country and other racist criticism. Society is an immense reason for the growth of racism especially to the youth. The saying goes, “monkey see, monkey do” and children will soak up anything society throws their way. Society make racist comments constantly, sometimes as satire or sometimes as an offense. Either way, racism is put out there into the world and children see this everywhere, so it is only natural that they would pick up on this as well. It is hard to imagine how kids, who are in an environment where racism and stereotypes are constantly put out there, behave towards their own classmates. Society caused a generation of youths to be affiliated into racism and worst of all, they do not understand the effects racism has on people. Racism causes in a way segregation towards specific groups of people and can cause the people affected to feel inferior or different which can lead to depression. Are there kids who become isolated because they feel as if they were not equal to everyone else. I can say without a doubt that at thousands of kids around the globe suffer from depression and isolation due to racism. According to the article, “Racism at School” , some of the effects of racism among youths include students become mentally weak, lose confidence, hate life, etc. This is not exclusive just to the students, this includes racism towards the instructors as well. Overall, this problem needs a solution quickly
