What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is a type of traditional Chinese naturopathy. It is a unique non-medicinal external therapy that is based on the theory of meridians and acupoints. ‘Gua’, meaning to scrape, involves the use of a smooth instrument (usually ox horn) to rub a lubricated area of the surface body. This intentionally creates transitory therapeutic petechiae called ‘Sha’.
Gua Sha can determine one’s health condition. ‘Sha’ will only appear on someone who is ill; vis-à-vis if someone is in good health ‘Sha’ will not emerge after scraping. Acupuncturists thereby analyze the shape, color and location of the ‘Sha’ to determine the patient’s condition and lesion level.

Patient A is a melanoma patient. At first nothing actually happened to the large melanoma on the patients stomach, but after a few sessions of Gua Sha, the melanoma starts to fall off.
