Referring to Michael Mateas’ article, I argue that Gerty is an example of “behavioral interactionist AI” which its different with HAL, Gerty focuses with embodied agents interacting in a physical or virtual world. HAL is an example of “symbolist, classical AI”, which focuses with symbolic manipulation and problem solving. Thus both of these two AL has abilities to accomplish many specific capabilities, such as playing chess, communicate with people, etc. However, HAL its illustrates goal-driven behavior, which leads him to express inner conflicts and tells complicated lies that creates strong contrast with Gerty; Gerty is more emotional about Sam but not trying to achieve his goal. Dr. Loury speaks with no circumscription against his opponents. Therefore, he tries to influence the emotions of the reader by using an accusatory tone when referring to his critics ' ideas as "dangerous." Loury (2013) effectively uses the device of metaphor to help his readers understand his argument when he says, "One could use a color-blind instrument to pursue racial goals and color-conscious instruments to pursue goals that are not necessarily racially defined" (p. 347). Loury doesn 't believe that color-blind policies can guarantee racial equality. But, can 't they?

Amir bewedded to an Afghan woman, Soraya, but before marriage there was concern about her past. When she was younger she ran away with a man without her father's approval, which to the afghan culture was just unheard of. Soraya came back but she had brought shame to her parents for what she had done. Baba says to Amir “It may be unfair, but what happened in a few days, sometimes even in a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime…” (Hosseini 142).
The tone of my book would be mysterious/suspicious. It is this because in my book it says, ¨The Baudelaires couldn't help but look back at the colonists with the same curiosity, wondering how so many people could become castaways on the island.¨ This would be suspicious or mysterious because they are wondering how so many people coincidentally ended up on the same island. This made me personally think, maybe they are hiding something and everything that Ishmael told them is a lie. Another way the tone is mysterious/suspicious is because it states, ¨Ishmael raised his eyebrows again.
The unknown not knowing where you are, how you got there or the purpose of being there. The Maze Runner written by James Dashner, is a fictional novel based in the future. Dashner uses many literary devices to help portray his imaginative story, and paint a picture in the reader’s head. The characters are described in great detail and the reader can quickly imagine their personalities and appearance. The theme used is very basic but, is fully expressed throughout the book.
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
Through flashback, Amir recalls the story told to him of Hassan’s birth. Recalling this memory, Amir makes aware that he and Hassan nursed from the same woman and describes the “ kinship that not even time could break” that they held. Later he goes on to share each of their first words, Amir’s being “Baba” and Hassan’s being “Amir”. A baby’s first word tends to be the one the child is most closely associated with, and through this, one can observe the person to whom each child would look up to. Amir goes on to spend his childhood simply trying to be good enough, trying to be the child Baba would be proud of.
A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, surrounds the cities of Paris and London during the late 1700’s. The novel takes place during the French Revolution, a period of social and political upheaval in France and England. While peasants died in the streets from hunger, aristocrats had more money and power than they knew what to do with. A Tale of Two Cities describes, in detail, the poverty of the time period, as well as the struggle of a people able to overcome oppression. The novel is largely based off of occurrences Dickens experienced during his childhood.
Mark Twain, an 18th century humorist, was known for his critical and satirical writing. In one of his most famous essays, “ Fenimore Coopers Literary Offenses” Twain addresses Coopers inability to realistically develop a “situation” and his failure to effectively back up his stories in order for them to be more plausible. To dramatically convey his unimpressed and sarcastic attitude, he applies biting diction, metaphors and hypophora throughout this work . By continuously using biting diction, Twain develops a mocking tone towards Fenimore Cooper’s incapability to create even the simplest of storylines. In the title of the work a sarcastic tone is evident; the word choice is utilized to reinforce the argument stating how Coopers work is an offense to the world of literature.
Their love of mystery and adventure stories take over their natural curiosity. Moreover, they are fascinated by myths and rumors about the neighborhood legend, Boo Radley.
