Gun control has been a hot debate for many years among Americans. Most countries around the world don’t allow firearms to be owned by normal citizens, and those who do are very heavily restricted. Those are countries I would not want to live in. I believe that the right to own a firearm is one of the most important rights in our Constitution. Without firearms I cannot hunt, which is one of my favorite activities. I also want to protect my family one day, and I believe that is one of the most important things I can have to protect myself. I am the type of person that believes that armed police officers are’t the answer to protection against crimes. On average, police officers take nine to eleven minutes to respond to an emergency ( ). I want to be sure I can protect myself and my future family in the time it takes police to get there. Most of their bans are related to the AR-15 and AK-47 platforms. Many people refer to these firearms as assault weapons. I think that that is wrong because it is not an assault weapon until it is used to assault something. The gun cannot be blamed for that. The bans California has include banning high capacity magazines, banning pistol grips that the thumb can be wrapped around on rifles, and handguns must be certified for sale(). California has very strict laws, but there are a lot of people who live there and many big cities. I believe their laws are a little extreme, but good for their situation. I also believe that gun laws could probably be enforced better instead of making new laws to protect us that don’t work. If bad people can still get illegal drugs, they will be able to get illegal guns too. That would mean the law abiding citizen wouldn’t have a good way of protecting
