Moving from a small sleepy mountain town in Northern Arizona to the bustling monstrous city of Las Vegas, Nevada fulfilled many of my goals in just a four hour drive. I am eighteen years old, it seems hardly reasonable to have an eighteen year old that has a hard time making the minuscule decision of what to have for dinner- make the decision of what to do for the rest of their life. I know the world is full of opportunities and I plan on taking advantage of as many as possible. Taking this class is an opportunity in itself. Similar to other five to six year old girls my answer varied from gymnast to princess to chef. Wanting to be a chef became my goal. As I grew up and became a freshman in high school I was given the opportunity to be a member of a competitive culinary team. High school went on and I fell in love with food, restaurants, and special events. More importantly I fell in love with the people who worked with food, owned restaurants, and planned special events. I was hired as a pastry cook at the Little America Hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona but that wasn’t enough. I worked as a dishwasher, pantry cook, banquet cook, and line cook. I loved every second of being in the kitchen but all I could think about was being in the front of the house. During my sixteen hour shifts I would often think, what is the perfect job for me? I couldn’t pick just one so instead I created a list of goals my career should fulfill. One: Working with food and people who love food.
