The Good Side of the HOPE Scholarship’s Academic Requirements

Most high school seniors are aware of the requirements and the potential benefits of the HOPE Scholarship in Georgia. The HOPE in the HOPE Scholarship stands for Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally. The purpose of the HOPE Scholarship is to reward students with financial assistance for colleges and universities. The Scholarship applies only to Georgia’s students and can only be used in Georgia since it was recognized there. Currently, the HOPE Scholarship has been changed with higher requirements and specifications. Georgia’s lawmakers decided to increase the academic requirements for the HOPE Scholarship. The HOPE Scholarship is funded by the Georgia Lottery. If many students are applying for the HOPE Scholarship, the lottery can run out and not many students will get the HOPE Scholarship. When increasing the academic requirements for the HOPE Scholarship, students that deserve the scholarship can be funded without impacting the lottery.

The classes can be honors, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment that are taken at a close college (Severson, 2011). “Larger or more affluent schools often offer more such opportunities.
