Why “Weave” Is Wonderful
“You wear weave? EW.”
Well, I'm sorry you believe my hair extensions are disgusting, but personally I love them. My “fake” hair shouldn't offend you, however, if it does I am truly sorry. Also, just because I wear extensions it doesn't necessarily mean that I hate myself or my hair, and it doesn't mean I am denying my culture. Hair extensions are multicultural and diverse between genders so not just African American women wear “weave.” That term alone is offensive because there are so many types of extensions so you cannot narrow it down to a single “ghetto” term.
Personally, I believe hair extensions are great. First of all things, extensions promote hair growth. when you braid your hair down or sew extensions on top of it, your hair grows. Why is that? NO. Installing hair extensions does not mean you hate yourself. If anything, it shows that you love yourself, and your hair, enough to protect it and keep it cute. Extensions, in multiple ways make you love your hair more. If you have your hair covered for a long time, you begin to miss your own hair, therefore making you appreciate it more when it is free. If it is free most of the time, you begin to dislike your hair and it becomes a hassle, but if it is constantly covered up, you enjoy the time you have until it is time to cover up again.
Haters say that weave is unnatural, means you hate yourself, and fake. What they don't say is it helps you love your natural borne hair, promotes growth, and prevents damage. People are quick to judge but not quick to learn. A famous quote that I love states, “My hair doesn't need to be fixed, society's narrow minded view of beauty needs to be fixed.” So because I wear extensions, just like millions of other women, it's nasty? Get with the program and go buy some Malaysian body
