Matt woke with a start. “Where am I?” he wondered
Adjusting his spectacles, he saw his familiar blue eyed face and messy brown hair reflected in the lenses.
“Looks like our hero has returned to the land of the living”, a voice interrupted his thoughts, “You best be going Matt, it’s closing time”
I must have fell asleep reading in Mr. Barnes's bookstore, thought Matt.
“Sorry Mr. Barnes I lost track of time”, He replied
“With all the time you spend here it was only a matter of time before you started sleeping here to”, Mr Barnes jokingly replied as Matt left the store.
He stepped outside into a warm breeze, with the sun just beginning to fall. It’s another good day in Eastern Washington, Matt thought to himself.

Shall he read Hamlet, or maybe The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe.
Then an old musty book caught his eye, carefully pulling it out he saw it was titled The Land of Stories. Figuring it was worth a look, Matt grabbed the book and sat down on one of the bookstores sofas. Settling in he Turned over its faded red cover, and began to read.

Back in Mr. Barnes’s bookstore, the book rustled.
Matt awoke with a headache, he felt as if someone had created a sport of repetitively taking a sledgehammer to his head. Opening his eyes he saw people circled around him. Then finding that the light made his headache worse, he closed them again. Straining his ears he could hear the people whispering.
“Is he the foretold hero?” one said in a hushed voice.
