Recently, I interviewed Hannah Brown, a 9 year old child laborer working in a manufacturing factory on how she was spending her life every day. She said, “I am working at the mill in Bradford. Every day we begin our work at 6 in the morning and work until 9 at night. When business is brisk, we begin at 5 and work until 10 in the evening”. The Industrial Revolution is currently a major factor which is shaping our society rapidly day by day for a better future and a living. The Industrial Revolution is a key to bring many new ideas, changes, and technology. Although the Industrial Revolution has its own positive impacts such as the raises of economy, development and manufacturing, there are always sacrificers such as the children in child labor, whom their sufferings and pains are hidden behind the dazzling successes of the Industrial Revolution.
Child labor is being used in almost every industry nowadays. They are working in gas and nail factories, mines and construction sites instead of having proper education. Children as young as 5 or 6 years old who are working in factories are enduring some of the most uncomfortable and harshest conditions. I appeal to legislate law to protect our children from child labor and bring them a childhood. The child labor law should include; first, for children under the age of 16 must be banned from manufacturing and mining. Second, any child workers should not be full-time workers. Third, improve working conditions by cleaning up working environment clean and hygienic. Fourth, factories need to establish a minimum wage for labor and some requirements for school education and attendance.
